These photos were sent to me today by an American friend who lives part time in Cairo. You will not see them anywhere else.

This is the exterior of the Media and Information Building.

It is a functioning building which houses the State Television channel, among other things. It is surrounded by barbed wire, as you can see. Not in the photo are the numerous machine gun carrying soldiers guarding it 24/7.

A couple of months ago over 40 Christian Copts were killed while demonstrating in front of this building.

This enormous building housed Mubark’s political party during his reign.

It was burned and looted during the revolution, along with virtually every single police station in the country.

These are typical election banners that overwhelmed Cairo prior to the election. They were huge and they were everywhere. They are done by hand, by calligraphers.

By law, each party's slate of candidates must have at least one woman candidate. However, the Salafi’s who are extreme compared to extremists, would not allow a woman’s face to be shown. So, they would either paint a flower where the woman’s face would be, or even better, show a photo of her husband and say

This man’s wife is running for such and such office.

This was a Muslim Brotherhood rally held about a week before the election. It was so crowded that these people were kind of milling around on the outskirts because they couldn’t get in. Notice the almost total absence of women. This is a few blocks from the iconic Tahrir Square, where the rally was being held.

This is a typical Cairo café. Kind of their version of Starbucks. The fellow in the wheelchair is having a smoke, which is very common. My guess is these two voted for the Salafi ticket.

This rally was held the day before the election. It was sponsored by the Muslim Brotherhood with the the title “Take Back Jerusalem.”

There was a “kill the Jews” chant and theme to the rally, which went over very well.

The Muslim Brotherhood won about 40% of the Parliament seats. They are the more “moderate” Islamists as compared to the Salafis who won about 25%. The Salafis are backed by the Saudis.

Did Muslims fight for this country's freedom from England? No.


Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America? No, they did not. In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery. Your own half brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as "pug nosed slaves." Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family's "rich Islamic heritage," doesn't it Mr. Obama?


Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country? Not present.


There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.


Where were Muslims during this country's Woman's Suffrage era? Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so, that often they are beaten for not wearing the 'hajib' or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights, aren't they?


Where were Muslims during World War II? They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazi's in killing Jews.


Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001? If they weren't flying planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East. No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very "moderate" Muslims who's asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo, Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.


And that, Mr. Obama, is the "rich heritage" Muslims have here in America...Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslim.


And don't forget to add November 5, 2009 - the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counseling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan.


That, Mr. Obama is the "Muslim heritage" in America.

EGYPT IS NOT A SECULAR COUNTRY

From a friend who lives in Cairo:

Ninety percent of the women are veiled by choice. That is not by law, they just choose to be veiled. The legal system is Sharia based, meaning women have virtually no rights to inheritance and are not considered the equal of men in the eyes of the law. They can not petition for divorce, while a man can divorce his wife by saying “I divorce you” three times. The mosques are so over crowded that during the daytime when people can not pray at home they pray on the sidewalks outside the overflowing mosques. Since women can not pray in public, they literally kneel down on the floors of public bathrooms to pray. Most marriages are arranged.

The average Egyptian hates America and detests Israel. A few years ago, the number one song for several months on the Egyptian version of MTV was a ditty entitled “I Hate Israel.”

In the five years that I've been living in Cairo, I have never met a single Egyptian who did not believe that 9/11 was an Israeli/American plot. Not one. Every single Egyptian is a Truther. Every one.

Every Friday after prayers, somewhere in Egypt there is an attack on a Coptic Church or an individual Coptic. Sometimes it’s a large enough attack to make the international news, usually not. But, it is definitely “business as usual” to kill a few Copts every Friday.

As for the Army, who do you think has been running Egypt for the last 50 years? Mubarak was an Army man’s Army man. The new “transitional” leader of Egypt will most likely be a 75 year old Army man in the same mold as Mubarak. The Army has no affection for America. They have affection for the billions of dollars we throw in their direction.

It is not all flowers and balloons and “freedom” and “democracy” in Egypt right now. It is a disaster which will probably lead to a catastrophe.

The elderly, ailing Mubarak was not long for this world before the so-called revolution in Egypt. The Army was well aware of that. Mubarak wanted his son Gamal to succeed him. The Army hates Gamal because they see him as weak. Nothing is more reviled in the Muslim world than weakness.

If none of this had happened, some time in the near future there would have been a bloodless coup to replace Mubarak with a different Army strongman, which is exactly what happened. That is why the Army stood back and let the protestors run wild. The protestors were the useful idiots for the Army and the Army came out smelling like a rose. Everyone is hailing the Army for its “restraint.” That wasn’t “restraint,” it was a tactic to get exactly the outcome they wanted.

UPDATE:

I think the Muslim Brotherhood has been greatly strengthened. On the other hand, the Army does not cotton to the Brotherhood, so that is good thing.

If there is an election in September or any time in the near future the Brotherhood will increase their 20% representation in the Government considerably. Will they win in this upcoming election? No. Will they win if there are future elections? Very likely.

Will they have huge influence over the government starting today? Absolutely.

All this talk about the Brotherhood being a small minority is ridiculous. They are the only organized opposition political party in Egypt. They are cunning. They are smart. They have played their cards well. Not to mention, before the fall of Mubarak, when they were an illegal party they still garnered 20% of the vote. Now they have been given legitimacy by the U.S. Government, they are the only organized political group, there is a power vacuum, and the people of Egypt are going to be very disappointed and disillusioned when they realize they have gotten rid of an 82 year old military dictator and replaced him with a 75 year old military dictator.

Let’s put it this way: things are looking up for the Muslim Brotherhood, but not so much for Israel or the U.S.

The Settlements Myth

Obama says he came to Cairo to tell the truth. But he uttered not a word of that. Instead, among all the bromides and lofty sentiments, he issued but one concrete declaration of new American policy: "The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements," thus reinforcing the myth that Palestinian misery and statelessness are the fault of Israel and the settlements.

Blaming Israel and picking a fight over "natural growth" may curry favor with the Muslim "street." But it will only induce the Arab states to do like Abbas: sit and wait for America to deliver Israel on a platter. Which makes the Obama strategy not just dishonorable but self-defeating.

Since Time Magazine has been allowed to call Obama a prophet, I am going to state that he is more likely the False Prophet spoken of in the Book of Revelation (New Testament) regarding the "end times."

Even more strategically devastating than his castigation of Israel as the villain in the Arab-Israel conflict is Obama’s stated policy towards Iran. In Cairo, Obama offered Iran nuclear energy in exchange for its nuclear-weapons program. This offer has been on the table since 2003 and has been repeatedly rejected by the Iranians. Indeed, they rejected it yet again last week.

Obama must know that his policy will not lead to the hoped for change in Iran’s behavior. And since he must know this, the only rational explanation for his decision to adopt a policy he knows will fail is that he is comfortable with the idea of Iran becoming a nuclear power. And this is something that Israel cannot abide by.

The only silver lining for Israelis from the president’s speech in Cairo and his general positions on the Middle East is that Obama has overplayed his hand. Far from bending to his will, a large majority of Israelis perceives Obama as a hostile force and has rallied in support of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu against the administration. This public support gives Netanyahu the maneuver room he needs to take the actions that Israel needs to take to defend against the prospect of a nuclear armed Iran and to assert its national rights and to defend itself against Palestinian terrorists and other Arab and non-Arab anti-Semites who wish it ill.

My Fellow Americans:

My life has taken a dark turn (so to speak.) I am being stalked by a powerful, menacing Halfrican American! I went to Istanbul not too long ago and was followed there by none other than Barack Obama. Now I'm in Cairo and Obama's coming here. I swear to Allah, if the man shows up in Porter Ranch I'm calling the cops!

Meanwhile, unlike Turkey, where the excitement prior to the Messiah's visit was palpable, here in Egypt, not so much. The Egyptian attitude ranges on the excitement scale from total indifferenence to somewhat annoyed about the abominable two day traffic snarl Barack's visit will invariably create.

Why the difference in attitude, you ask? Well, I think for a couple of reasons. First of all, since this is a Muslim country, they are always looking for a reason to be pissed and/or "dissed." Since Obama chose to go to Turkey as his first Muslim country, every other Muslim country is now insulted. Not to mention, among Muslim countries Turkey is not considered a real Muslim country, so that added insult to injury.

Second of all, since the Turkey visit Obama has made yet more decisions about the War on Terror (and therefore Muslims) that are none too popular around here. In fact, there was a political cartoon in the newspaper depiciting Obama in a cowboy hat and boots, basically saying that there was no difference between Obama and George W. Bush. (If only that were true.)

Nonetheless, Cairo is on high security alert, Muslim style. Although the exact location of Obama's speech is supposed to be a state secret, it was nonetheless published on the front page of all the newspapers along with photos of Cairo University preparing the campus for his visit. Plus maps of the campus. There will be 300 well chosen students and 2,700 Egyptians with wasta ( political influence) attending. No motorcade, as he is arriving by helicopter. I'm sure more security details will be leaked as soon as they are available.

Meanwhile, there are tons of American security people staying at my hotel. Leon Panetta could easily hold a staff meeting in the fittness center or lounge any time of the day or night. But, boy do those guys have their work cut out for them. If Obama survives this visit without incident then we'll know he really is the Messiah.

Meanwhile, as we say in New York, not for nothin' but it turns out Sean Penn is also in town. Penn is shooting a movie here, the Valerie Plame story. He plays her vile, lying husband, Joe Wilson. (Type casting?)

Obama, Sean Penn, suddenly Cairo is lousy with famous Americans, or alternatively, one could say lousy, famous Americans are all over Cairo.
