Fed financial theory smacks into reality
Ultra-low interest rates to stimulate the economy sound like a good idea, but there are consequences. . .As the great sage [Yogi Berra] of baseball notes, theory and practice are two separate things. The Fed's policy isn't working, and it's doing more harm than good, producing more losers than winners.READ MORE

The Crazy Texan vs. The Smart Kenyan
Obama had gained attention as a critic of the Iraq War, squawking about necessary wars to small crowds of wealthy elderly Marxists from Chicago's upper crust champions of the red working class, but no sooner had he gotten out of Iraq than he was jumping up and down on the diving board and splashing down into Libya to show how much smarter and better he was at fighting unnecessary wars than that ignorant Texan who shot first and nuanced later.READ MORE
George W. had told the American people that there was a vital American interest in stopping Saddam, from getting his hands on WMDs. Barack H. told the American people that "it was not in our national interest" to let Gaddafi capture Benghazi. What national interest was at stake in keeping Benghazi run by homicidal Islamist militias tied to Al Qaeda will be a lot harder to find than Iraqi WMDs.
Bush had told the United Nations that he wanted regime change in Iraq. Obama lied to the UN and told them that he was only looking for a No-Fly-Zone and then used that zone as an excuse to keep bombing Libya long after its air force had run out crop dusters and bottle rockets, until a drone pinned down Gaddafi's convoy long enough for a mob to gather around and sodomize him to death.
The crazy Texan had built a fortified Green Zone for the American diplomatic presence. The smart Kenyan stuck them in an exposed mansion patrolled by terrorist militias and waited longer to rescue them than he did to send out another email offering a chance to win a free dinner with him, proving that there really is such a thing as a free lunch.

The dirty secret about being in power is that you can only claim to be the authorities when the people willingly comply. The laws you enact must be reasonable and acceptable to the masses, because non-compliance breeds contempt for the law and authority. No regime can claim to be in control when the common citizens regard them as a joke.READ MORE
What brought down the Soviet regime? First they made promises they couldn’t keep. They taxed and spent with no regard of their national debt. The citizens realizing there was no point in hard work began to slack off (go Galt). In whispers, hushed tones and written on bathroom walls, the people began to mock the ruling regime. Contempt for authority grew like weeds, the black market flourished. Eventually the rulers could no longer sustain the illusion that they were in control.
The more people who laugh at the king and his men behind their backs, the more the king’s authority shrinks until, like Assad in Syria or Gahddafi [Libya] or Saddam Hussein [Iraq] he finds himself the ruler of nothing but the hole he’s hiding in.

Muslims have restored blasphemy prosecutions to the United States and Europe through violence.
Like Khrushchev banging his shoe on the United Nations delegate desk, they did their best to convince the rest of the world that they were violently irrational and liable to do all sorts of things if their demands weren't met. And their demands were met. Rather than going medieval on their asses, the civilized world instead went medieval on anyone who offended the medieval cult of Islam.READ MORE
Muslim blasphemy, like the ghetto hood's respect is an assertion of supremacy by identity. It isn't a grievance, it's a right of violence, and if you give into it, then you accept the inferior status that comes from being weak in a system where might makes right and killing people, or threatening to, is what makes one man better than another.
Islam is submission. If you submit to Islam, then you're a Muslim. If you submit to a Muslim, then you're a slave. The western blasphemy trial is not the enforced submission of an Islamic legal system that would be crude and brutal, but at least comparatively respectable, it is the enforced submission to Muslim violence. The judges who preside over our blasphemy cases do not believe in Islam, they believe in the danger of Muslim violence. This is not theocracy, it is slavery.

A true Christmas story
Please see my post from Christmas Eve last year (2011) and please DO NOT miss listening to the incredibly beautiful song from the movie Joyeux Noel!
Sorry this is a bit late for Christmas, but we had an electrical fire in the oven in our kitchen and had to deal with returning the ham and other groceries (which Gelsen's so generously agreed to allow) and then finding a place to take our Christmas Eve guests for dinner last night.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Now they tell us
AFP - No one wanted to be president less than Mitt Romney, his son said in an interview out Sunday that raises new questions about the candidacy of the losing Republican nominee.Romney didn't want to run for president, son says
In an interview with the Boston Globe examining what went wrong with the Romney campaign, his eldest son Tagg explains that his father had been a reluctant candidate from the start.
So who the hell's bright idea was it, then? (And why would Mitt Romney let anyone else push him into something he didn't want to do?)
I resent the fact that there is a group of people in the Republican Party who are not only manipulating and distorting the process of Republicans selecting their representatives, but who are forcing and coercing people who have no interest in doing so into running! By what right? And, for what reason?
If there EVER was a reason for TARRING AND FEATHERING politicians, this is it!

Mexican Nazis
From To The Point News:
By the way, whenever will Mexican Nazis be called racists? Fox disclosed this week (12/17) that the school district of Salinas, California intends to name an elementary school after a murderous 19thcentury Mexican bandit, Tiburcio Vasquez. This is straight out Orwellian Marxist racism, another attempt to portray a murdering thug as an anti-white, anti-America hero like Che Guevara.
So I have a suggestion for TTPers. That you email or call the hate-America racist responsible for this, John Ramirez, Superintendent of the Alisal Union School District, and politely ask that he stop making his school infamous and an object of ridicule - and instead, name this school after a true 19th century Mexican-American hero and patriot.
That would be Romualdo Pacheco (1831-1899) - the first and to this day only Hispanic governor of California. He had an extraordinary career as you can read in the link - being, just for example, one of the first politicians in California to denounce slavery, and the only California Governor to have roped a grizzly bear. Not even Ronald Reagan can claim that!
Strangely, not a single California school has yet been named after him - although the Governor Romualdo Pacheco Elementary School in Indio (near Palm Springs) is scheduled to open next year.
The Salinas Peace Officer Association has condemned Ramirez's honoring a murdering bandit, while the Monterey County Deputy Sherriff Association has expressed "extreme disappointment." You could contact them as well with the suggestion of Gov. Pacheco.
So Superintendent Ramirez, by making his decision immediate, could be the first to honor California's only Mexican-American governor - and be praised instead of denounced and laughed at.
There is however an important connection between Gov. Pacheco and the bandit Vasquez. When Vasquez was finally captured and found guilty of murder by trial jury in January, 1875, he was sentenced to death by hanging. In early March, he appealed to the state's new governor, who had just taken office on February 27, for clemency. The appeal was denied, and on March 19, 1875, Vasquez was hung. The governor who denied the appeal was Romualdo Pacheco.
Ps: the story of Mexican Nazis is told in TTP, May 2005.

Law professor calls for legal insurrection in 2013
A reader of this site I was speaking with, who immigrated to the United States from a communist country, said that amongst his friends, they have a phrase to describe what happened in their countries: “first came the pen, and then the fist.”Moving from an Emboldened Left in 2012 to a Legal Insurrection in 2013
First the media softened the environment, and only then rulers like Ho Chi Minh came to power.
It is the media that has provided cover for the Emboldenment of the anti-freedom groups of 2012. It is here that we need to bring our battle, for the media sets the narrative, chooses the protagonists and the scapegoats, and picks what is news, and what the public will never hear about. It is local media, above all, that reaches households on a daily basis who aren’t attuned to politics...
I’ve been observing my local media channels: ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and the incredible emboldenment of their reporters to refuse to report–and scoff at those who would challenge them–any news that does not fit their narrative. They no longer hide it, they’ve talked on camera about their plans to refuse to cover events. NBC Chicago reporters have now, multiple times, exposed themselves without fear. For who will report it?
If you plan to write your congressman or attend a townhall meeting, consider calling out your local t.v. station instead. Write a letter to the editor describing their actions rather than a politician’s.
The mainstream media has successfully softened the environment; the politicians we elect and the decisions they make are just manifestations of a media-indoctrinated culture.
Let’s make the word of 2013: Insurrection. (Legal, of course.)
Insurrection against the local media
Insurrection against the teachers union and their stranglehold over the next generation
Insurrection against keeping quiet at the dinner table or at your church
Insurrection against the elements that no longer keep quiet about their desire to destroy America, and more important, the limits America was founded to restrict against its government.
If we don’t insurrect (legally) in 2013, emboldenment will be outshone by persecution, of which we who support freedom and America have already had a taste.
New study confirms economy was destroyed by Democrat policies
A new study from the widely respected National Bureau of Economic Research released this week has confirmed beyond question that the left's race-baiting attacks on the housing market (the Community Reinvestment Act--enacted under Carter, made shockingly more aggressive under Clinton) is directly responsible for imploding the housing market and destroying the economy.READ MORE

YOUNG, WHITE MALES
An Interesting E-Mail on Young, White Males
December 17, 2012
BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I got an e-mail note. I want to share this with you based on the last call that we had.
Dear Rush:
I have not watched a second of news on the school shooting over the weekend, mainly because seeing the reporting makes me cry and unable to do much else. But I'm tuned in enough to know that once again the American leftist culture is forcing us to collectively look at the wrong reasons for the problem, and as such, we will never be able to come to grips with it, much less find a solution. What do all of the public shootings in the last years have in common? They were all done by young white males who were from upper middle-class families. The problem is not guns. That's the easy shiny thing that the liberals flash in front of us so that we don't look at their failed political agenda.
The problem in America today is how we have treated white boys for the last decades, and it all has at its root the unrelenting liberal political agenda. Boys have been pushed out of two of the most important activities: school and sports. In an all-out effort to convince girls they can do anything a boy can, schools have ignored the natural needs and learning traits of boys and forced them to learn like girls. Fewer boys are going to college, in part because they're being pushed out by a feminist agenda in education. We have rushed to dilute the energetic aggressive aspects of the male species by drugging them as children and chickifying them at every turn.
We allowed our young boys to play violent murdering video games. These types of games are the same ones the military uses to train soldiers. But they are being played by very, very young kids in dark rooms all over the country. You want to ban something, ban those. We have overlooked the devastating effects on all children of not having a father in the house. And we have ignored and not helped boys with their mental illness. We've hyperventilated endlessly over girls and their eating disorders, image issues, self-esteem, sex, blah, blah, blah, but we have most totally ignored the mental challenges that boys face.
Interesting, don't you think? It's an e-mail from a female listener to the EIB Network.

ObamaCare Will Bring Bureaucracy, Endless Rules And Coercion, But Improve Nothing
So good luck retaining any meaningful doctor-patient confidentiality in a system in which more people — insurers, employers, government commissars, TSA Obergropinfuhrers, federal incentive-program auditors — will be able to access your medical records than in any other nation on earth.READ MORE
No foreigner can even understand the American "health care" debate, which seems to any tourist casually surfing the news channels to involve everything but health care. Since World War II, government medical systems have taken hold in almost every developed nation, but only in America does the introduction of governmentalized health care impact small-business hiring practices and religious liberty, and require 16,500 new IRS agents and federal bonuses for contributing to a national database of seat-belt wearers.
Thus, Big Government American-style: Byzantine, legalistic, whimsical, coercive, heavy on the paperwork, and lacking the one consolation of statism — the great clarifying simplicity of universal mediocrity.
ObamaCare governmentalizes one-sixth of the U.S. economy — or the equivalent of the entire French economy. No one has ever attempted that before, not even the French. In parts of rural America it will quickly achieve a Platonic perfection: there will be untold legions of regulators, administrators and IRS collection agents, but not a doctor or nurse in sight.

He is a sociopath that could give a sh*t less about this.
It's the sun, stupid
THE PLANET, IT ISN'T MELTINGExcerpt from Daniel Greenfield blogging at SULTAN KNISHBreaking news from the US – h/t Watts Up With That? – where a leaked draft of the IPCC's latest report AR5 admits what some of us have suspected for a very long time: that the case for man-made global warming is looking weaker by the day and that the sun plays a much more significant role in "climate change" than the scientific "consensus" has previously been prepared to concede. That's a rather fancy way of saying... it was the sun. Now all that the environmentalists have to do is fulfill man's greatest dream by putting out the sun.
Here's the killer admission:
Many empirical relationships have been reported between GCR or cosmogenic isotope archives and some aspects of the climate system (e.g., Bond et al., 2001; Dengel et al., 2009; Ram and Stolz, 1999). The forcing from changes in total solar irradiance alone does not seem to account for these observations, implying the existence of an amplifying mechanism such as the hypothesized GCR-cloud link. We focus here on observed relationships between GCR and aerosol and cloud properties.
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP A MAN WITH A GUN IS WITH A GUN
America now has its second worst mass shooting. And it, as usual, accompanied by calls for gun control. It's no coincidence that we have had quite a few spree killings in such a short time. The lavish coverage of every shooting by the media encourages every shooter to think that he will be famous if he goes out and kills. And that is exactly what happens.Excerpt from Daniel Greenfield blogging at SULTAN KNISH
Our shooters are creatures of the media, not the NRA. A media that turns killers into celebrities and then warns that the only way to stop more shootings is by cracking down on firearms.
But no amount of media coverage ever stopped a man with a gun. It only encouraged him. It takes a gun to stop a man with a gun. That is the hard truth of human affairs. It is why we have a Second Amendment, it is why we have armies and police, and it is why people own guns.
There is no going back to a time before people owned guns. There is no going back to a time when violence did not exist. There is only the reality that killers stalk the streets and that we can either defend against them or take comfort in empty outrage.
Guns stop shootings. Not all the time and not every time, but they do. Gun control does not. Media coverage calling for gun control does not.
Gun crime was up 35 percent in the UK which has harsh gun control laws. And Europe has had plenty of its own school massacres.
"Figures showed the number of crimes involving handguns had more than doubled since the post-Dunblane massacre ban on the weapons, from 2,636 in 1997-1998 to 5,871."Thomas Hamilton killed 16 children in the Dunblane school massacre in 1996 using 4 handguns.
In Germany, in the Winnenden school shooting in 2009, Tim Kretschmer, killed 16 people, including 9 students. In the Erfurt massacre in 2002, Robert Steinhäuser killed 16 people with a handgun and a shotgun.
In Finland, in the Jokela school shooting of 2007, Pekka-Eric Auvinen killed 8 people. In the Kauhajoki school shooting, Matti Juhani Saari killed 10 people.
The media will pretend that this sort of thing only happens in America. It doesn't only happen in America. It happens where killings do.
Gun control isn't about putting an end to horrors, it's about controlling people. And people who are used to being controlled have even less ability to cope with the uncontrolled and the uncontrollable.
Regulators think about the big picture. They don't think about the individual. They think only about how to control people who follow rules. But shooters, by definition, do not follow rules. They are men who have stepped outside the system and care nothing for its rules. They want to kill, and they will find a way. And when they come, the only way to stop a gun is with a gun.

Election 2012 provides a powerful justification for, at a minimum, enacting strong voter ID laws throughout the nation and a repeal of the most anti-Democratic voting legislation ever written, the National Voter Registration Act.READ MORE
Protecting the integrity of the vote will prevent election theft and give voters more confidence in clean elections, a confidence that is today justifiably lacking.

The reason we lost America
We didn't catch on to the game until it was too late:

No surprise
The religiously unaffiliated voters are almost as strongly Democratic as white evangelicals are Republican, polls show.

You might be a progressive if….
You
propose a 15% increase in a program’s budget, and when the legislature
scales it back to 12%, you riot over “draconian cuts” to “vital
services.”
You’re
more worried about a possible one degree rise in the Earth’s
temperature next century than about Iran giving terrorists an A-bomb to
produce a 10,000 degree rise in New York’s temperature next year.
You
think racial discrimination is the worst evil there is, unless it’s
discriminating against Asians and whites to satisfy your desire for
diversity at your university.
You think getting Rush off the air is more important to women than ending FGM.
You don’t know what FMG is.
You
think not giving free birth control to middle class college students is
a “war on women,” but have nothing to say about Honor Killings, the
stoning of rape victims, forced child marriages for nine-year-old girls,
throwing acid in the faces of school girls for trying to get educated
and female genital mutilation in Muslim countries, because “all cultures
are equally valid.” Except, of course, the Western culture that
nurtured you and made you prosperous.
You’re a big fan of the First Amendment, as long as you can ban anything you disagree with as “hate speech.”
You
think Hitler who killed 20+ million people is the embodiment of evil,
but Mao, who killed 60+ million people, is one of your favorite
philosophers.
You
think Sarah Palin is a dangerous radical who promotes violence, but
dress your kid in a Ché Guevara tee shirt, because when Ché said, “Crazy
with fury I will stain my rifle red while slaughtering any enemy that
falls in my hands! My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of
gunpowder and blood,” it was just so cute.
You think Andrew Breitbart deserved to die, but believe that it's barbaric to execute someone who rapes and murders a child.
You
thought “Piss Christ” was wonderful art and deserved taxpayer funding,
but that any newspaper publishing the Danish cartoons should be punished
for insulting Islam and inciting riots.
You’re sorry that Dick Chaney survived his heart transplant, but are too timid to say so.
You
think it’s racist to demand an ID to vote, but not to buy booze and
tobacco or to cash checks, fly or drive, because minorities don’t need
to do those things.
You
look forward to the day when everyone either works for the government
or lives on government assistance, and have no concerns as to where the
money will come from to pay for that, because then the rich will be
"paying their fair share."
You
think requiring government employees to contribute to their health care
insurance and pension costs at anything close to the rate of employees
in the private sector is "union busting."
You
think people oppose Barack Obama's policies out of pure racism, while
you oppose the views of Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Thomas Sowell, Alan
West and Michelle Malkin out of pure principle.
You
are ready to save the planet...short of personal sacrifice. But you are
always okay with making others sacrifice for your goals.
You
believe the general run of people--though not of course you--need
government to make decisions for them, for their own good.
You are convinced that anyone who doesn't think like you about the world is evil, stupid or both.
You
believe that a central planning board can make better economic
decisions for everyone than millions of people making billions of
decisions daily can do for themselves.
You
believe that a little vote fraud from time to time isn't really a bad
thing, if it advances the enlightened candidates and progressive
programs you support.
You
are still sure that majority black rule replacing evil minority white
rule was good for the black people of Zimbabwe, despite hyper-inflation
destroying their economy, a shift from exporting food to starvation as
farms—but not the work ethic or farming knowledge—were taken from white
farmers and given to blacks, and a drop in black life expectancy from 63
to about 36. After all, one can't make an omelet without breaking eggs.
Just not your eggs.
You
believe that people are basically good, it's just circumstances and
institutions that make them do bad things, so a heroin-addicted
gang-banger who has committed rape and murder can be reformed.
(Republicans not so much.) As long as the half-way house isn't in your
gated community.
You
believe the 47% of the population who pay no federal income tax are
paying more than their fair share, while the 5% of the population who
pay 60% of the federal income tax aren't paying near their fair share.
You
believe all people have equal potential--except for black people who
need special help and rules like affirmative action if they are to be
able to compete with white people.
You think the way to bring down gas prices is to raise taxes on oil companies.
You think higher taxes on big business will make them move jobs to the US.
You
believe that a country can borrow its way to prosperity, though you
know that doesn't work for families or organizations very well.
You
think that capitalism is an evil system, but would never consider
relocation to a non-capitalist country as you couldn't do without all
the comforts and the living standard capitalism provides.
You
believe in separation of church and state, but that public
government-funded universities should pay for foot baths to aid Muslims
to worship.
You
believe that both white and black-owned banks giving loans at high
rates to whites than blacks, and at higher rates to Asians than to
whites, based on credit histories, is evidence of racial discrimination
and required government intervention in the housing market. And that had
nothing to do with the collapse in housing prices when the bubble
created by speculation burst.
You
believe that people who speculated in houses, buying more house than
they could afford or several houses to flip, betting that the price
would always go up, must be bailed out by the taxpayers because the
price went down “to keep them in their homes.” You don’t feel the same
way about people who speculated in stocks.
You
believe that water-boarding three or four terrorists to get information
to save lives was far more evil than using drones to make a red smear
of scores of terrorists and everyone who happened to be around them when
the rockets struck.
You
believe that Democracy is the highest goal and always support
fulfilling the will of the people, unless, of course, the people are so
stupid as to want Obamacare repealed, voter ID laws, the enforcement of
immigration laws, concealed carry laws or other things you are opposed
to.
You
believe that wealthy liberals like the Obamas deserves to send their
kids to the best possible private schools, but that doesn't apply to
poor black kids, who must go to whatever school is best for the
teachers’ union.
You get annoyed at those old guys who stand and salute when the flag goes by, blocking your view of the parade for a moment
You
believe that the US taxpayers should finance both countries that want
to destroy us and the UN, which they use to undermine our freedom.
You
think the US should be more like Europe, and can’t understand why
Europe, with shorter working hours, higher taxes, fewer people in the
work force, longer mandated vacations, earlier retirement, and better
government-funded benefits should be in such economic trouble.
You
think everyone should be forced or intimidated into joining a union and
thus be compelled to make political contributions to progressive
candidates in the pursuit of Social Justice.
You believe that international opinion and the UN should trump US opinion and the Congress.
You tend to think of Communists as just fellow progressives with guns and guts.
You
think the only problem with the USSR, Cuba, China and other socialist
regimes is that the wrong people got in charge and you and your friends
will do it right next time.
You
think attacking Iraq with the okay of Congress was a war crime, but
attacking Libya without congressional approval was no big deal.
You
think we had to take out Gaddafi for “killing his own people,” but
should have left Saddam alone, though he killed far more of his own
people.
You
wear a hoodie to remember Trayvon Martin, but never heard of
Christopher Cervini. And aren’t interested, since Christopher was an
unarmed white teen, shot dead by a black man who was acquitted.
You
hate fascism, but have no idea what the fascist economic system was or
how much their state corporatism resembles today’s US government
rewarding companies that do the government’s bidding.
You
think a Muslim screaming "Allah Akbar" as he murdered 13 Americans was
"workplace violence," nothing to do with Islam or terrorism.
Every
attack on Americans by Muslims increases your conviction that Homeland
Security needs to keep a better eye on veterans and evangelical
Christians.
Your
commitment to multiculturalism has produced a growing fondness for
Islamists which makes you wonder if Hitler didn't have a point about
Jews, those Apes and Pigs of the Qur'an.
You
aren’t crazy about Hugo Chavez, but admire how he doesn’t tolerate
criticism of progressive policies in the media or from opponents.
Sometimes an iron fist is required.
When
Muslims murder infidels, including children, you think the Muslims are
the victims because there could be a “backlash.” That there are daily
murders in the name of Allah, with few signs of any backlash, doesn’t
stop your handwringing over the possibility.
You
are continually surprised when Communists act like Communists, tribal
groups act like tribal groups, theocratic barbarians act like theocratic
barbarians, and the lower classes are too stupid to understand that
your policies are for their own good.
You
think that it only takes one side to make a peace, no matter how
violent, warlike and determined to dominate the other side is. And you
know that bowing helps make them respect us.
You think if the Jews in Germany in 1935 had just had “Coexist” bumper stickers on their cars, everything would have been fine.
You still think the Rosenbergs got a raw deal just for helping equalize the arms race.
You’re
not sure about God, but think everyone should accept Global Warming on
faith. Even though the pro-global warming scientists say there has been
none since 1995.
You
have not studied economics, political theory, foreign policy or history
at all, but instantly know the right solution for any public policy
question. Why study when you know all the answers?
You
feel terrible for the OWS folks who took out large loans from the
taxpayers to pay liberal university professors to educate them in Peace
Studies or Sociology, who can’t find a six-figure job working 20 hours a
week.
You
thought high gas prices under Bush were his fault, but that higher gas
prices under Obama are the market’s fault. But if gas prices drop,
you’ll credit Obama.
You
think the Law of Supply and Demand should be declared unconstitutional,
because it is so clearly anti-progressive and hurts your quest for
“Social Justice.” Maybe gravity, too.
You
are willing to overlook any number of murders, oppression and terror by
foreign despots as long as they hate America and freedom sufficiently.
You
can’t recall a time in your adult life when you weren’t lobbying to
free some downtrodden murderer who, if you met him in a dark alley,
would cause you to wet your pants.
You
no longer debate opposing points of view, because it’s easier and more
fun to dismiss them as “racist,” “Islamophobic,” “flat Earth thinking,”
or part of a “War on Women.” Or whatever the smear of the day.
You are sure that all of your opinions are enshrined in the Constitution.
Your first instinct is always to punish the productive and reward the unproductive. Thus ensuring less production.
You think raising taxes on companies that produce goods will cause them to lower the price of the goods.
You
think Obama ignoring Congress with Czars, executive orders and recess
appointments is great, and can’t wait for his second term when he can
ignore the voters as well.
MODEST NEEDS: Help for the 'working poor'
At Modest Needs, we work to promote the self-sufficiency of the 'working poor' - the hard-working but low-income individuals and families that conventional philanthropy has otherwise forgotten.FIND OUT MORE
We have elected to undertake this mission because we recognize that a significant gap exists in the social service 'safety nets' of developed nations like the United States and Canada.
This gap leaves low-income but generally self-sufficient individuals and families without access to small amounts of short-term, emergency assistance in favor of providing significant amounts of long-term assistance to these same individuals and families once they've fallen deeply into the cycle of poverty.
In keeping with our mission, Modest Needs offers grants to low-income but generally self-sufficient households, displaced workers struggling to return to the workforce, permanently disadvantaged persons struggling to afford medical care, and small non-profit organizations. Our grants are designed:
- To prevent otherwise financially self-sufficient individuals and families from entering the cycle of poverty, when this might be avoided with a small amount of well-timed financial assistance;
- To restore the financial self-sufficiency of individuals who are willing to work but are temporarily unemployed by providing these persons with the means to return to work;
- To empower permanently disadvantaged individuals who otherwise live within their limited means to continue to live independently, despite a temporary, unexpected financial set-back related to their medical conditions; and
- To strengthen small non-profit organizations by providing a forum whereby such organizations can apply directly to the general public for the help they need to complete the relatively inexpensive projects that will allow them to better serve their clients and communities.
To the best of our knowledge, Modest Needs is the only legitimate non-profit organization of its kind serving the United States and Canada.

I actually did "Take 5"
Way back when I spent a summer at The Saint Louis Institute of Music (which has since been torn down) I used to skip the afternoon classes in order to spend time down in the basement practice rooms trying to figure out how the heck to play 5/4 time (which is what "Take 5," by the recently passed on Dave Brubeck, is all about).
I just couldn't seem to get it until one magical moment (would you call it an "epiphany"?) when it all came together in a flash and, suddenly, I was wailing :-)
But, that is not the end of my little story...
Years later, when I was dating a well-known jazz guitarist, I had the occasion to meet Eugene Wright who was the bass player on "Take 5" and his wonderful wife (whose name I cannot now remember) as well as having the opportunity to hear him and my friend play the greatest jazz at "The Money Tree" night after night in Toluca Lake, CA. The Money Tree is also no longer there, like some of the very best jazz "joints" in the San Fernando Valley.
I used to see Sarah Vaughn sitting at the bar in her levis at Carmelo's (it's a Thai restaurant now, I think). I used to listen to the biggest names in jazz at Dante's which was owned by one of the dancers in the movie "Guys & Dolls." None of them have been around for years, now.
Oh, the memories.

When the casino finally goes "bust", you will know who to blame.
Without a doubt, a derivatives panic is coming.
It will cause the financial markets to crash.
Several of the "too big to fail" banks will likely crash and burn and require bailouts.
As a result of all this, credit markets will become paralyzed by fear and freeze up.
Once again, we will see the U.S. economy go into cardiac arrest, only this time it will not be so easy to fix.

Republicans are attempting to divert the nation — not from the “fiscal cliff” but from something much worse...
If government debt is not controlled by spending cuts (tax increases on the rich make scarcely a dent), the U.S. is headed for drastic economic decline. Interest rates will rise to attract wary international investors. Rising interest rates will in turn increase our debt service burden, while a diminished private sector will provide less and less tax revenue. The combination of spiraling debt service and entitlement spending will quickly leave no funds for any other purpose.Think: Mad Max

OUR DEBT IS NOT 16 TRILLION
Chris Cox and Bill archer pointed out in a Wall Street Journal article on
November 27th that our government has not been including Social
Security and Medicare liabilities when computing our national debt.
and the Securities and Exchange Commission, is president of Bingham
Consulting LLC. Mr. Archer, a former chairman of the House Ways &
Means Committee, is a senior policy adviser at
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
November 27th that our government has not been including Social
Security and Medicare liabilities when computing our national debt.
“The actual liabilities of the federal government—including Social Security, Medicare, and federal employees' future retirement benefits—already exceed $86.8 trillion, or 550% of GDP. For the year ending Dec. 31, 2011, the annual accrued expense of Medicare and Social Security was $7 trillion. Nothing like that figure is used in calculating the deficit. In reality, the reported budget deficit is less than one-fifth of the more accurate figure.”Mr. Cox, a former chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee
“Why haven't Americans heard about the titanic $86.8 trillion liability from these programs? One reason: The actual figures do not appear in black and white on any balance sheet. But it is possible to discover them. Included in the annual Medicare Trustees' report are separate actuarial estimates of the unfunded liability for Medicare Part A (the hospital portion), Part B (medical insurance) and Part D (prescription drug coverage).
“As of the most recent Trustees' report in April, the net present value of the unfunded liability of Medicare was $42.8 trillion. The comparable balance sheet liability for Social Security is $20.5 trillion. The realworld impact will be felt when currently unfunded liabilities need to be paid. In theory, the Medicare and Social Security trust funds have at least some money to pay a portion of the bills that are coming due. In actuality, the cupboard is bare: 100% of the payroll taxes for these programs was spent in the same year they were collected.
“In exchange for the payroll taxes that aren't paid out in benefits to current retirees in any given year, the trust funds got nonmarketable Treasury debt. Now, as the baby boomers' promised benefits swamp the payroll-tax collections from today's workers, the government has to swap the trust funds' nonmarketable securities for marketable Treasury debt. The Treasury will then have to sell not only this debt, but far more, in order to pay the benefits as they come due. “

5 Dirty Little Secrets About the Bush Tax Cuts
Investor's Businss Daily
...not to say that the Bush tax cuts weren't flawed. They were phased in over time — limiting their effectiveness — and they came with an expiration date.
As a result, taxes will automatically go up unless Congress votes to extend the Bush tax rates.
That alone is the reason for the fierce political debates today over which parts to extend and which to let expire.
Reagan's tax cuts, in contrast, were permanent, so the only way Congress could increase taxes on anyone was to actually vote for a tax hike.

More mysterious deaths surrounding Obama
These three or possibly four deaths may or may not be connected.READ MORE
Here is a short version. Three individuals with connection to certain documents were found dead in their cars in DC, one found burned alive in her car in TN.
Ashley Turnton was a special assistant to Nancy Pelosi in 2007. Turnton was burned to death in her car, which was parked in the garage of her house.
Lieutenant Quarles Harris (Lieutenant in this case is not a title, but an unusual first name) had stolen passport records, linked to group of three State department contractors who were caught hacking into Obama’s passport records. Harris was found dead in his car parked in front of his church in DC.
Secret Service agent assigned to Obama’s detail, Rafael Prieto, officially committed suicide because his affair became known, however he was already separated from his wife, so why would he commit suicide? Prieto was found dead in his car a few days ago.
Katherine Smith, DMV worker in TN, was indicted in issuing fraudulent drivers licenses. 5 Middle Eastern men were found with such bogus drivers licenses issued by Smith right after 9/11. One of them also was connected to “Magic Plumbing”, New Jersey plumbing company. This employee had a pass from the World Trade center from a day before 9/11. As you recall, many burned to death in 9/11 due to the fact that someone switched off the sprinkler system. A day before Katherine Smith was supposed to testify in her trial, whe was found dead in her car, burned to death. The car had only a small bump, which would not cause the engine to explode or the car to catch on fire.
In 2009 I visited US attorneys office in Nashville, TN. I was with Fran MacLeran, wife of Presidential candidate and co-plaintiff in my MS case, Thomas MacLeran and 2 other people.
We showed them the threats, where I was threatened to be burned alive. I submitted a report from Investigator Sankey, which showed Obama using multiple forged IDs, fraudulent Social Security numbers, multiple addresses according to the national databases. One of these addresses was in NJ. It showed a lien from “Magic Plumbing”. This lien could be nothing, could be something. At any rate, forged IDs were a matter of concern.
Assistant US Attorney told me that he lost friend in 9/11 and was eager to investigate.
He called me a couple of weeks later and told me that his superior forbid him to investigate and ordered to close the case. I have the names of both US attorneys and phone numbers and dates written down. I signed in before the meeting. US attorneys office should have a log showing me there at the meeting.

They went from hurricane victims to prisoners of the government
There is ample reason to fear not only the collapse of the nation’s economy, but the loss of liberty in America.
READ MOREThe monster Homeland Security Agency just graduated its first class of FEMA Corps, kids aged 18-24, recruited from the President’s Americorps volunteers, that will become a full time, paid standing army. Fears of FEMA camps abound and in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, people seeking shelter and food were herded into one that resembled a concentration camp of the Nazi regime and told not to use various means of communication to contact the media or outside community. They went from hurricane victims to prisoners of the government.

Why are child porn and trafficking the fastest growing crimes in America?
No wonder we are losing the country...something has gone terribly wrong:
HAT TIP: Orly Taitz, Esq
Child trafficking and porn are the fastest growing crimes in America. With billions being laundered in black money it makes solid economic sense for the IRS to focus on the child porn industry. Eric Holder’s Department of Justice has demonstrated they have no interest in prosecuting pedophiles, not even their own. The IRS should be given substantial resources to compensate for DOJ’s disgraceful failure. American tax-payers, not to mention America’s children, will reap huge rewards.READ MORE

The saga of Mitt and Ann
THE TROUBLE WITH MITT
by Daniel Greenfield:
by Daniel Greenfield:
Back when the establishment turned Romney into its choice, I said that they should have their shot, but that they should pay a political price for their failure if it blows up in their face. Ann Coulter isn't willing to pay that price. Instead she's gone back to her old routine. And Coulter's routine is a simple one.Friday Afternoon Roundup: Rumors of Ceasefires
1. Take a shot at an easy liberal target
2. Say something shocking about the left or minorities
3. Push liberal Republican apologetics
Items 1 and 2 establish Coulter's street cred for item 3 which is the real agenda. Using that same 1, 2 and 3 routine, Coulter has been able to sell anything, including RomneyCare as a conservative principle.
Now after taking a shot at Maxine Waters, a hard target if there ever was one, Coulter goes straight to selling Romney as more conservative than Reagan. Or more libertarian which is at least an easier sell.
But first Coulter throws out one of her specialties. Misleading facts.
The only Republican to defeat a sitting president in the last century was Ronald Reagan in 1980, when he beat Jimmy Carter, the second-worst president in U.S. history
Now this looks impressive. It makes it seem as if many Republicans tried to unseat Democratic presidents and failed.
One problem. Clinton was the only two-term Democratic president since FDR and his presidency unto death. The modern Republican Party, since its transformation into a conservative populist party, had only tried to unseat two Democratic presidents. It got one and utterly blew its attempt to unseat the other by running Bob Dole.
Now Obama was not an easy target, but neither is there some sort of track record of it being impossible for a Republican candidate to unseat a Democrat in the White House. But it helps to be a populist candidate, which Reagan was and Romney wasn't.
Reagan picked a pro-choice, anti-supply side Republican as his running mate. He lavishly praised FDR in his acceptance speech at the national convention, leading The New York Times to title an editorial about him “Franklin Delano Reagan.”
Meanwhile, Romney promised to institute major reforms to Medicare, repeal Obamacare and impose a 20 percent across-the-board tax cut. He said he’d issue a 50-state waiver to Obamacare on his first day in office. He chose a pro-life, fiscal conservative as his running mate and never praised FDR.
The only way Coulter can make Romney seem ultra-conservative is to tear down Reagan. But attempting to judge Reagan by 2012 standards doesn't work.
But let's look at why Reagan had to run the way he did and Romney had to run the way he did.
Reagan could run more liberal than he was, because he had established credibility on conservative ideas. No one doubted his bona fides after all these years. He could make compromises while people would still believe that he had the right agenda at heart.
Romney had to run more conservative than he was because he had no such credibility. And this is a major problem for politicians in general. It's how we ended up with our own version of John Kerry.
A Republican candidate may need to be able to run to the center in a national election while having right of center policies. Just the way that Obama runs a little to the right while holding a far left wing agenda. But candidates with no ideological cred cannot do this. People assume that they're selling out, rather than utilizing a strategy, and they're generally right.
The good news for masochists is that you can look forward to Ann Coulter doing this same full-court press for Chris Christie in a year or two as Mr. Conservative.
"The idea that Romney failed to present a clear contrast with Obama or was too “nice” is also nonsense."Now Coulter almost has a point here. That is if you don't count foreign policy, where Romney spent an entire debate agreeing with Obama, or social policy which he avoided talking about.
But on business, Romney established a clear line of difference with Obama. It was so effective that many Democratic businessmen became the Romney Democrats. Unfortunately Romney failed to extend this difference into any other area and all his Romney Democrats were mostly small and big businessmen. The Reagan Democrats either stayed home or voted for Obama.
The problem wasn't that Romney was too nice. The problem was that Romney did not know anything outside his narrow sphere of business. He failed to challenge Obama on Benghazi because he really did not understand the issues. That was why he also favored a more aggressive policy in Syria. Or why he couldn't set himself apart from Obama on foreign policy.
The same went for any issue outside business and the economy. And that seems palatable enough because the economy was the big issue. But that just highlights the differences between Reagan and Romney.
Reagan could extend conservative philosophy across a range of areas. Romney could only champion free enterprise and it wasn't enough.
Conservatives love Reagan less because of policy than because of the way he was able to advocate conservative ideas as mainstream ones. Romney had trouble doing this.
To the extent Republicans have a problem with their candidates, it’s not that they’re not conservative enough. Where are today’s Nelson Rockefellers, Arlen Specters or George H.W. Bushes? Happily, they have gone the way of leprosy.
Having vanquished liberal Republicans, the party’s problem now runs more along the lines of moron showoffs, trying to impress tea partiers
Really? Liberal Republicans no longer exist?
Has Jeb Bush gone the way of leprosy? Has Lindsey Graham? Have Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, John McCain all vanished?
In CoulterWorld, the Republican Party's elected officials are now all conservatives and the only problem is that obnoxious Tea Party morons insist on asking them to be conservatives, even though they totally are. Like Mitt Romney and Chris Christie.
