BEST CONSERVATIVE BOOKS

I would add something that you won't see in the lists below since it is more recent and that is Rush Limbaugh's series for children (many adults reading to children have been amazed at the things they weren't taught in school):

NATIONAL REVIEW (2/8/10):
A few months ago, a professor e-mailed with a simple question: What are the great conservative novels? He was preparing a course on the history of American conservatism and wanted to include some fiction on his syllabus. I proposed a few titles, but his question lingered in my mind. So I asked readers of National Review Online for their suggestions. I also canvassed several experts on American literature. Hundreds of ideas poured in. Here is the result: a list of ten great conservative novels, all written by Americans since the founding of the conservative movement in the 1950s. Lists such as this are always (and ideally) debatable. Yet these choices represent something of a rough consensus. Feel free to add them to your own reading syllabus. – JOHN J. MILLER

D'SOUZA (1/18/13):
Here is my list of the most important works produced in the last half century or so that every conservative should read. The list includes books written by conservatives as well as book that discuss themes that are important to conservatism. Some writers who would not call themselves conservatives, including Margaret Mead and George Orwell, are on the list.

I should caution that this is not a comprehensive catalog; it is necessarily biased toward books that I have found persuasive and profound. Finally, I have kept the list brief, because life is short.

Happy reading. - DINESH D'SOUZA

BUSINESS INSIDER (3/29/13):
At any book store in the country, you can find hundreds of titles from right-leaning authors — and they are selling like hotcakes.

Over the past few years, the Tea Party groundswell and the presidency of Barack Obama has fueled a new and growing crop of conservative authors, as well as renewed interest in the canon of nonfiction works that have shaped conservative thought in American culture and politics.

The following is a list of 13 books that are staples to any Republican bookshelf. While the list by no means comprehensive, its a good starter guide for any young conservative looking to get his or her feet wet in the movement. - GRACE WYLER and PAUL SZOLDRA

REDSTATE (c 2006):
Obviously we here at Right Shelf think books are important. And a cursory look at the history of conservatism reveals that books have played an important role in the battle of ideas. So I thought it might be interesting to ask some of my favorite conservative writers to name five books that had an impact on their thinking. Keep in mind that the lists below are not meant to rank conservative books but rather to note books that have had an impact on the writer's thinking. I have used the Amazon link for those that are readily available.
