Powerline chronicles Obamacare lies - UPDATE #26

LIES OF OBAMACARE

MORE LIES OF OBAMACARE

UPDATE:
And make no mistake, that is what Obamacare is, at root — a massive disruption of our health care system in the name of wealth redistribution.

As this reality dawns on Americans, it will likely redound to the disadvantage of Democrats (not that there’s much consolation in this). The winners under Obamacare will be a cohort that already votes overwhelmingly for Democrats. The losers will consist mainly of middle class Americans, whose party allegiance is split.

Why is the Progressive Conservative premier of Canada coming to the United States for surgery?

Mr. Williams' decision to leave Canada for the surgery has raised eyebrows over his apparent shunning of Canada's health-care system.

"It was never an option offered to him to have this procedure done in this province," said Ms. Dunderdale, refusing to answer whether the procedure could be done elsewhere in Canada. [Emphasis mine.]

Was Democrats’ Health Care Strategy Written In Federal Prison?

While in prison—or “forced sabbatical,” he called it—Creamer wrote a lengthy political manual..., Listen to Your Mother: Stand Up Straight! How Progressives Can Win (Seven Locks Press, 2007).

The book was endorsed...by leading Democrats and their allies, including SEIU boss Andy Stern—the most frequent visitor...thus far to the Obama White House—and chief Obama strategist David Axelrod, who noted that Creamer’s tome “provides a blueprint for future victories.”

In the book, Creamer draws lessons from decades of experience on the radical left, including the teachings of arch-radical Saul Alinsky, and several episodes from Rep. Schakowsky’s political career. He also lays out a “Progressive Agenda for Structural Change,” which includes a ten-point plan for foisting universal health care on the American people in 2009:
  • “We must create a national consensus that health care is a right, not a commodity; and that government must guarantee that right.”

  • “We must create a national consensus that the health care system is in crisis.”

  • “Our messaging program over the next two years should focus heavily on reducing the credibility of the health insurance industry and focusing on the failure of private health insurance.”

  • “We need to systematically forge relationships with large sectors of the business/employer community.”

  • “We need to convince political leaders that they owe their elections, at least in part, to the groundswell of support of [sic] universal health care, and that they face political peril if they fail to deliver on universal health care in 2009.”

  • “We need not agree in advance on the components of a plan, but we must foster a process that can ultimately yield consensus.”

  • “Over the next two years, we must design and organize a massive national field program.”

  • “We must focus especially on the mobilization of the labor movement and the faith community.”

  • “We must systematically leverage the connections and resources of a massive array of institutions and organizations of all types.”

  • “To be successful, we must put in place commitments for hundreds of millions of dollars to be used to finance paid communications and mobilization once the battle is joined.”
Creamer adds: “To win we must not just generate understanding, but emotion—fear, revulsion, anger, disgust.” Democrats have followed Creamer’s plan to the letter.

THE 20 BIG LIES IN THE HEALTHCARE REFORM DEBATE

From www.docs4patientcare.org/

1.You can keep your insurance if you like it.

2.You can keep your doctor if you wish.

3.US healthcare ranks near the bottom of the industrialized world.

4.Major cause of bankruptcies is related to medical expenses.

5.14,000 people per day are dying due to lack of medical insurance.

6.Most doctors support Obamacare as endorsed by organized medicine (AMA).

7.Senior citizens will not lose any Medicare benefits.

8.Insurance premiums will be reduced for most Americans.

9.This plan will only result in tax increases for the super wealthy.

10.Proposed HC bills are budget "neutral" and will not add to the federal deficit.

11.There are only 2 choices: the current system or Obamacare.

12.The Republicans say NO because they lack and alternative plan.

13.The public "strongly" supports Obamacare and public option.

14.There will not be any rationing in healthcare.

15.The government will not interfere between you and your doctor.

16.Most doctors oppose HCR legislation so they can preserve their income.

17.This is a "crisis" situation and needs to be passed into law immediately.

18.A public option will increase competition and not result in a single payer system.

19.Members of Congress will be subject to the same healthcare as the general public.

20.Contents of the bill will be available to read at least 72 hours prior to a vote.

"Every time the state assumes an additional function such as health insurance, child care or benefits for the aged, the need for close family ties becomes weaker."

...the national health insurance movement rose alongside a larger transfer of responsibility from the family to the state: "Every time the state assumes an additional function such as health insurance, child care or benefits for the aged, the need for close family ties becomes weaker."

More provocatively he [Victor Fuchs] says: "It may be that one of the most effective ways of increasing allegiance to the state is through national health insurance."

Get ready for Detroit-style labor relations in our hospitals

In the heated debates on health-care reform, not enough attention is being paid to the huge financial windfalls ObamaCare will dole out to unions—or to the provisions in the various bills in Congress that will help bring about the forced unionization of the health-care industry.

Tucked away in thousands of pages of complex new rules, regulations and mandates are special privileges and giveaways that could have devastating consequences for the health-care sector and the American economy at large.

Obama's Health Care Pitch

President Obama's speech to Congress last night can be summed up rather easily. It was 40 minutes of boilerplate followed by a socko, emotional finish exploiting the death of Senator Teddy Kennedy. Which leads to this question: was Obama's finishing kick sufficient to achieve his goal of "reframing" the national debate on health care that hasn't been going his way? I don't think so.

Obama didn't come close to offering a persuasive explanation of how he'd pay for ObamaCare. And that remains his biggest problem. He promises much, much more in guaranteed health benefits and says it will cost less. Even Obama himself couldn't really believe that. No one else who can add and subtract does. Cut "waste, fraud, and abuse?" Not a chance.

There was one mild surprise. Instead of scaling back his plan to comply with public sentiment, Obama stuck to every promise and provision on which he's dwelled in more than two dozen speeches. There was nothing new, except the size of his audience.

From this, it's clear he's decided to push a partisan bill through Congress with Democratic votes alone. We could tell this from the pleased expression House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had on her face throughout the speech. She's belongs to the no-compromise school.

But unless Obama has suddenly transformed public opinion, Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid won't be able to find enough Democrats, even among the usually malleable Blue Dogs,

Defy the public to bail out a president in trouble? Only Democrats in safe seats are likely to do that.

I had five questions that I looked for Obama to answer in his address. I wanted to see if he was serious about achieving moderate, bipartisan health care. It turns out he's not. Here are the questions:

More healthcare tragedies!

UPDATE - TRAGEDY: 'Doctors told me it was against the rules to save my premature baby'

TRAGEDY: The daughter of a stroke victim claims that her father is to be wrongly placed on an NHS scheme for the terminally ill which experts say is causing some patients to die too soon.

TRAGEDY: Twice Katie asked for a smear test, but was told she was 'too young' to need one. Now 24, she is dying from cervical cancer, one of many young women who have fallen victim to a scandalous change in health policy.

TRAGEDY: Brian Faughnan over at RedState posted this today:
As the debate on health care continues, liberals in Washington continue to try to convince Americans that we need government-run health care. Rather than tell the truth about long waits, denied treatments, lack of trained professionals, and bureaucratic mistakes, they try to convince listeners that the problems of the current system can only be solved by more government.

With that in mind, I will present one case study of government-run care per day - either for 100 days, or until the debate in Washington is over. These stories are drawn from the book Shattered Lives, by the National Center for Public Policy Research.
This is story number one:

TRAGEDY:Race-baiter Democrat Rep. Diane Watson praises Cuban health system, Castro & Guevara who “kicked out the wealthy”
THIS IS THE FAMOUS 'GREAT AND FREE HEALTHCARE' THAT REGULAR CUBANS RECEIVE
As a reader pointed out on Michelle Malkin's blog in 2007:
If the lauded Cuban healthcare system is so wonderful, perhaps someone can explain to me the following:
  • Why some patients are taken to the hospital in wheelbarrows instead of ambulances?

  • Why patients must bring their own linens for the hospital bed and often, a fan, to combat the stifling heat and lack of air-conditioning?

  • Why cockroaches and other vermin are present in what is supposed to be “sanitary” health facilities? Why many common medicines are not available? If Cuba can export cutting-edge biotechnological products to other countries, surely the US embargo cannot be blamed for not allowing medicine to enter Cuba.

  • Why, in a 185-bed cancer center in Santiago where some 6,000 people are treated MONTHLY, there is a shortage of basics such as codeine, anti-nausea drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, antacids, laxatives, high blood pressure medicine, antihistamines, anti-depressants, contraceptives, vitamins and minerals? This particular hospital, sadly, is the norm, not the exception

  • Why 41% of patients in Cuban hospitals are undernourished, particularly after surgery. Malnutrition risks increase with extended stays in the hospital, according to the U.S. National Institute of Health.
Was any of this mentioned in “Sicko?” Of course not!
Gateway Pundit also warned us in 2007:

Canada's Health Care Lottery

Why aren’t there more family-practice physicians? Canada’s provincial governments had to cut their spending on health care, which drove the doctors out of the system. Thanks to a lack of competition, no other supply can come to market, which eventually leads to this kind of rationing. A lottery is only slightly more arbitrary than any other bureaucratic mechanism.

Brits May Eliminate Tonsillectomies

Rather than controlling costs, as is promised by American supporters of a "one-plan, one nation" single payer system, the British have created a bureaucratic monster...The costs have grown so rapidly that massive layoffs of health care workers are likely, and elimination of some surgical procedures, such as tonsillectomies, are under consideration...
