Civil War: Hugh Hewitt's own private sesquicentennial celebration

Transcripts:
I’m kicking off three days of my own private sesquicentennial celebration of the end of the siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Gettysburg today, tomorrow and Friday. On Friday, I’ll be joined by Victor Davis Hanson and Larry Arnn talking about the Battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War generally. Tomorrow, Harry Jaffa joins me to talk about the Declaration of Independence and the roots of that conflict. Next hour, I’m going to be joined by Jeff Shaara, whose new book on Vicksburg has just come out, and you do not want to miss that amazing novel. More coming up on that next hour, but I begin my three day sesquicentennial celebration with none other than Rich Lowry, who’s the editor of National Review and has been for a decade and a half. He’s of course a syndicated columnist. You see him a lot on Fox News. And he’s the author of a terrific new book in bookstores now, Lincoln Unbound: How An Ambitious Young Rail-Splitter Saved The American Dream, And How We Can Do It Again.
Rich Lowry On Lincoln Unbound
On this July 3rd, the eve of the Declaration of Independence celebration, it is also the 2nd day of the sesquicentennial celebration, commemoration, call it what you will, of the Battle of Gettysburg. And it is two days before the sesquicentennial remembrance of the surrender of Vicksburg. And as I looked around to find someone to deal with both of those battles, I could find no one better than Jeff Shaara, novelist extraordinaire, whose brand new book, A Chain Of Thunder, I read on my recent vacation, along with the book that preceded it, A Blaze Of Glory. They are both linked over at Hughhewitt.com, because I’ve always believed that the best way in to a part of history you do not know is through historical fiction followed by history of the traditional sort.

I am completing my third day of the celebration of the sesquicentennial of, I think, the most significant week in American history, the week that the Civil War was actually put on a course that would lead to the Union victory, and to the triumph of the republic. Joining me for the first two hours today, Victor Davis Hanson, extraordinarily successful and well-known military historian, frequent guest on the program, and a prolific author. In the third hour today, Dr. Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College will join me to talk about the political theory of Abraham Lincoln who led the Union through this.
Victor Davis Hanson On Vicksburg And Gettysburg
I hope you have enjoyed these three days of commemoration of perhaps the most important week in American history, the week of, the first week of July in 1863 is the week in which everything changed in favor of the Union. The long and bloody war in the west, Vicksburg surrendered, and in the east, Gettysburg was won by the forces of the Union, though not elegantly. And to talk about the man and the theory who stood atop all of that is Dr. Larry Arnn, because this is the time of the Hillsdale Dialogue, where once a week, I talk about, usually with Dr. Arnn, a great work of the West. And today, in honor of this week 150 years ago, we’re talking about a great man of the West, Abraham Lincoln.

Doctor's orders: guard borders
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt is right when he says: “It is a national health service not an international health service.”
But Hunt is dead wrong when he expects NHS doctors and nurses to crack down on health tourists.
Nobody wants the Mickey taken out of the NHS. Many will applaud Hunt’s proposal to charge non-EU foreigners for access to the NHS.
But doctors are not border guards. And nurses are not immigration staff. There is not one A&E department, GP’s surgery or maternity ward in the land where they would turn someone away because of their immigration status.
We don’t live in that kind of country. Will a midwife demand to see the passport of a woman who just went into labour? Will a doctor refuse to treat a sick child because he doesn’t have the correct visa?
Politicians have clearly thrown away all control of our borders.
It should not be NHS staff who are asked to wrest it back.

Son of man, speak to your people

On my site, I have shared thousands upon thousands of facts and statistics that show that a horrific economic collapse is coming.  If you are new to all of this, the following are just a couple of articles that can get you started...
I am trying to do my best to warn people about what is coming from my little spot on the wall.  In the Scriptures, those that are aware that a threat is coming are responsible for warning others about it.  The following is a short excerpt from Ezekiel 33...

Economy up, White House down?

Sometimes you just have to laugh...
Normally a White House and their political supporters would be crowing as the economy starts to get better. But I think that big government agenda is upended a little bit if we don’t need another stimulus. It’s odd to watch as the data gets better and better that it almost seems like President Obama’s allies are getting more and more concerned because stuff that they want to do — big government spending programs — are less likely.

Russian Troops in USA: Just What Does the Obama Administration Have Planned?

Earlier this week, CA reported on a topic the Obama administration is quietly implementing, using Russian troops to enforce U.S. events.  Below, is an editorial from Western Journalism that covers some very good, albeit provocative, points that may get you thinking about preparing yourself for what is to come next from this administration.
Western Journalism reports: We’ve known that Russian troops have been in America for some time, allegedly being trained by American troops. Now it appears that FEMA has entered into an agreement with the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry. The reason is ostensibly to “provide security at mass events in the United States.”
Remember all those articles on the Obama Administration questioning whether or not military commanders would be willing to use live ammunition to fire on American citizens on American soil? You also probably remember the articles about Sheriffs throughout the United States who have publicly stated that they would not support any laws they believe are unconstitutional, especially where the 2nd Amendment is concerned. This places them in direct opposition to the federal government.
What we are now hearing about may well be the Obama Administration’s response to these issues. . .

What really happened today

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted.

Of those 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, nine died of wounds or hardships during the war. Five were captured and imprisoned, in each case with brutal treatment. Several lost wives, sons or entire families. One lost his 13 children. Two wives were brutally treated. All were at one time or another the victims of manhunts and driven from their homes. Twelve signers had their homes completely burned. Seventeen lost everything they owned. Yet not one defected or went back on his pledged word. Their honor, and the nation they sacrificed so much to create is still intact.

And, finally, there is the New Jersey signer, Abraham Clark. . .

The 56 signers of the Declaration Of Independence proved by their every deed that they made no idle boast when they composed the most magnificent curtain line in history. "And for the support of this Declaration with a firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

WARNING! A False Flag Group Launches Today

The American Rifle and Pistol Association (ARPA) is a FRAUD!

Do you remember the phoney "American Hunters and Shooters Association" that pretended to support gun rights ... but actually advocated more gun control and endorsed (surprise, surprise) Barack Obama?

Well, now with the 2014 elections gearing up, another fake gun group has popped up claiming to support "sane" gun ownership.

They're called the American Rifle and Pistol Association and they're officially launching today, July 4. But don't be fooled by all the firearm photos on their Facebook page or all the Second Amendment talk on their colorful website.
Here are direct quotes from their statement of principles:
R+P exists to promote SANE gun ownership and SANE firearms management. SANE stands for: Safety, Advocacy, Networking, and Education.
R+P believes that it is each state's right to determine for benefit of its citizens anyprerequisites, qualifications, documentation, training, and levels of demonstrated proficiency, if any, deemed necessary for lawful use of differing types of weapon systems. The establishment of any such requirements are not the prerogative of the federal government.
R+P seeks to work with state and local governments to help establish effective training and licensing programs designed to increase public safety while protecting eligible citizens' rights to keep and bear arms.
Got that? "Sane" gun ownership. Demonstrated proficiency. Licensing programs. Protecting "eligible" citizens' rights.

Exactly where in the Second Amendment does it say any of this? Who determines what is or is not sane? Since when do we need to demonstrate anything to exercise a right? Why do we need more licensing? And who exactly are the oh-so-lucky "eligible" citizens among us who will be granted protection from this bogus group of sham artists?

No, we don't want "insane" people to have guns. And yes, we think training is great. But we don't need more restrictions. We've been fighting for years to remove restrictions that do nothing to improve public safety and are designed merely to infringe on our rights as American citizens.

Spread the word about the counterfeit American Rifle and Pistol Association. Not only are they frauds, they're purposely insulting all gun owners by launching their pretend group on Independence Day.

Those of us with Buckeye Firearms Association, and thousands of other good Americans around the country, work countless hours week after week, year after year, volunteering our time to defend and advance our rights.

We don't hide who we are or what we stand for. What you see it what you get. If you disagree with us, fine. Stand up and be heard. But don't put on a mask and lie about your true intentions. That we cannot tolerate.

Click here to comment on their Facebook page and let them know you're not fooled by their charade.
Warn fellow gun owners on forums. Give a heads up to your buddies at the range. Don't let these fakers take our hard earned money or collect our addresses to further their anti-gun agenda.

If you want to read more about these charlatans, here are a couple links that have already started to expose this insincere farce:

Egypt: From someone who lives there

Obviously, it is a very complicated issue.

Morsi was elected in a fair and free election with the same margin of victory as Barack Obama. He was unpopular and autocratic but he was a democratically elected President. I am 100% against the military coup that threw him out.

The Constitution which was passed overwhelmingly with 64% of the vote has been dissolved as well, without a single vote being cast to do so.

Had the Army sided with Morsi, there was a possibility that he would have become more attentive to the wishes of the people. If not, there would be an election in three years and Egypt, while currently under Islamist rule, would have been a burgeoning democracy. It's very likely that a more secular President could have come to power legitimately in 3 years time.

Now the military and the Egyptian people have established a precedent where if you are not happy with the President after 100 days or 1 year or 2 weeks, you take to the streets and oust him. That is not democracy. It's chaos and leads to instability in a very crucial Arab country. That is bad for America and especially bad for Israel.

Beyond that, during Mubarak's 30 year reign and for the year and a half prior to Morsi's election, the Egyptian Military were essentially running the country. That was good for America because they were beholden to us for aid to the tune of about 2 billion dollars a year. However, that has all changed. Since Hillary and her BFF Barack made the decision to toss Hosni Mubarak under the bus and embrace the Muslim Brotherhood the Egyptian Military has gotten in bed with Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates and no longer need or care about Obama or America's money. They now dance to the tune of a new and wealthier piper.

For sure behind the scenes Obama tried to pressure the Egyptian military into protecting Morsi to avoid this new mess, but we no longer have leverage.

So, what happens now? Immediately, there will be euphoria and excitement in Egypt. Then there will be a month of Ramadan. And then I predict sectarian and political violence all over Egypt, disappointment and disillusion with the Army rule, and even worse economic conditions in Egypt, not to mention more gigantic and deadly demonstrations.

In short: Hell to pay for this idiocy.

And who's to blame? Hillary. Were it not for her and her BFF, Obama, Mubarak would still be in power, Egypt would be stable, America would be safer, Israel would be safer, and the Egyptians would be far better off.

POSTCRIPT:

It should be noted that the objection to President Morsi was almost entirely economic based. The Egyptian economy is in the toilet. No tourism. No foreign investment. No hard currency. Long bread and gas lines. Power outages.

American television is portraying this as a rebuke of the Islamists. It is not. it is a rebuke of the Muslim Brotherhood, who happen to be Islamists, but more importantly to the Egyptian people, have done nothing to solve the economic problems and have in fact exacerbated them. If a different Islamist party arises or even just a different Brotherhood candidate, that person could easily get elected. Egyptians are not disillusioned with the Islamists, they just want Islamists who know how to build an economy.

Of course, the irony is that by causing this chaos and uncertainty the Egyptian economy will now spiral down even lower.

Follow the money: American Action Network

Look up a group called American Action Network. It is an organization often described as “conservative”. Well, while it leans conservative on some issues, it is, at heart, yet another East Coast big money Republican network. It’s president, a man by the name of Brian O. Walsh, has a long record of working for East Coasters. Think along the lines of Mitt Romney or Chris Christie, and you get the idea. Now I’m not here to slam either Romney or Christie. When he wasrunning against Barack Obama I was a strong supporter of Governor Romney for the simple fact he wasn’t Barack Obama. (Yes, given Obama’s record, both past and present, that should have been reason enough for most who were actually paying attention.)

Now the American Action Network is basically one of the more influential groups now raising and spending vast quantities of cash in an attempt to secure control of the GOP. Another (similar) version of Karl Rove if you will. Somewhere along the line, this organization locked in with Marco Rubio and offered him support IF Rubio would make a strong push for immigration reform. Have you heard all those Rubio-related political ads asking you to contact Senator Rubio and help him to end the “current system of amnesty”? That is American Action Network behind those ads.

As a related aside, the founder of American Action Network, Norm Coleman, was the Minnesota Senator who was defeated (illegally) by Al Franken in 2009. Coleman, similar to figures such as Romney and Christie, is a politician who leans right, but then can alter course to the left when it is politically advantageous to do so. (Perhaps we need to add Senator Rubio to that list now?) Since his defeat, Coleman has been among the more influential “think tank” figures within the GOP, repeatedly calling for Republicans to be more willing to strike “grand bargains” with their Democratic counter-parts.

Back to the American Action Network itself. Perhaps its most influential big money donor is Ken Langone of former Home Depot fame. Langone is another East Coaster. On a personal level, I like Langone’s brash Wall Street style and record of business success. Politically though, he has a long history of backing political losers, indicating he simply does not fully understand the Mainstreet Power that actually makes up the true heart and soul of Conservative America. McCain didn’t understand it either. Nor did Romney. Now figures like Langone would appear to want yet another try in nominating a GOP candidate that will likely fall short (again) in appealing to the millions of conservatives throughout the country desperate to have a candidate they can truly call their own.

In addition to the deep pockets of Langone, is one of the ranking board members of American Action Network – one former governor of Florida – Jeb Bush. While Jeb Bush had a credible record of success in Florida, and proved capable of delivering an important electoral swing state to his brother George during that Bush’s own presidential campaigns, the Bush family, as much as I admire some aspects of their service, is another example of right-of-left thinking that has created such a dysfunctional and politically homeless GOP in the first place. And in case you think I made a mistake in that previous sentence, I did not. The GOP has become a right of left organization – not a right of center one. That is why so many conservatives view it with such (rightful) distrust.

Is America in a Pre-Revolutionary State this July 4th?

I am filled with foreboding about what’s to come, indeed about what is already here. When I look at the masses swarming in Tahrir Square, I am at once repelled and attracted, repelled because, to be honest, I find their culture more than a bit crazy, but attracted because I know something is seriously wrong, not just in Egypt but in the USA.

Just heard Mark Levin read this article on the air...will blow your mind.
...everywhere we look on this July Fourth sees a great civilization in decline. And much of that decline can be laid at the foot of the incumbent. Especially his own people, African Americans, have suffered. Their unemployment numbers are catastrophic, their real needs ignored while hustlers like Sharpton, Jackson, and, sadly, even the president fan the flames of non-existent racism.

Tahrir Square anyone?

15 Photos From the Tahrir Square Protests You'll Never See In Legacy Media. #Egypt #Morsi #Obama

Curiously, a massive wave of anti-Obama sentiment in Egypt has been utterly ignored by vintage media, even though the protests may be the largest in all of human history...
