If the Voting Section at the Justice Department had acted with zeal in August and September to protect military voters, James Cole might be confirmed. If the Voting Section had even bothered to reply to Senator Cornyn’s request for basic information about what was happening to our soldier’s voting rights, Cole might be at his desk.Obama Nominee in Peril Over Terror and Military Voting Policies
Instead, we witnessed a bureaucrat-induced disaster of inaction, slow action and lawless contempt for the military voting laws.

About 9/11 (this is important)
Two men, one idea:
And the father of Daniel Pearl who wrote an open letter to the Attorney General (too bad Eric Holder is corrupt)
Two kinds of peoples lose wars. Those who lack the physical resources to defeat their enemies and those who lack the cultural resources to defeat them. We do not lack the physical resources, but our culture is the culture of the ostrich, a head stuck inside a television set and a body left vulnerable to whoever will have it. We have come to believe that compassion is more important than justice, sensitivity is more important than truth, and that if we fight for ourselves, then we are always wrong. Our moral high ground has becoming a sinking island topped by a white flag.9/11, Just Another Day
There is one thing and only one thing alone that we can do to survive. Turn the corner. For G-d's sake, turn the corner. The ostrich is an endangered bird in the Middle East where sticking your head in the sand is no defense against those who would chop it off. Soon it will be an endangered bird everywhere else. There is no escape from those who would kill us, but that we kill them first. The failure to understand that is the failure to survive.
It is now 8:46 AM on September 11, 2009. Eight years to the minute when the inescapable choice was put before every single American. Turn the corner before it is too late.
And the father of Daniel Pearl who wrote an open letter to the Attorney General (too bad Eric Holder is corrupt)
By crafting the Geneva Conventions at the end of World War II, the international community demonstrated the necessity of creating new legal frameworks to deal with new realities. That same need should now compel the international community to embrace a legal category to deal with the new phenomena of a war with no foreseen ending; an army with no honor and no respect for human life; an army with no uniform, no country and no government; and an army that does not reciprocate agreements...Our son was murdered—and his beheading videotaped—to satisfy this craving for publicity. Your recommendations must make it clear to every would-be terrorist that, if captured, he will go down the path of total oblivion to the extent allowed by law.We Need a New Legal Regime to Fight the War on Terror

NO WE CAN'T: Barack Obama FAILS to win Nato troops he wants for Afghanistan!
Way to go, Mr. Charm. (Hey, maybe it's time for some BOTOX!!!)
Barack Obama made an impassioned plea to America’s allies to send more troops to Afghanistan, warning that failure to do so would leave Europe vulnerable to more terrorist atrocities.Read the whole disgusting thing.
But though he continued to dazzle Europeans on his debut international tour, the Continent’s leaders turned their backs on the US President.

War?
Tensions in the Middle East are moving well beyond the normal point, and given everything that is happening, events are moving to a point where someone is likely to take military action.A Mystery in the Middle East

Why Democrats are like children
“Anyone who’s ever played a game with a small child should recognize the Democrat Party’s strategy on politicizing the War on Terror. When things go poorly for their opponent, they yell ‘You Lose!’ Whereas when things go well for their opponent, they yell ‘No Fair! You Cheated!’
Unfortunately for America, the Dems consider their real ‘opponent’ to be any American who wants to win the War, rather than, say, al-Qa’ida and other Islamist murder cults. Regardless of who it is used against though, the ‘if you’re not losing you must be cheating’ strategy is foolproof and works for any occasion.
Consider the first few months of the Iraq War. Anti-war (or should I say ‘Anti-Victory’) forces promised a D-Day style bloodbath, and then hysterically touted every bathroom break on the way to Baghdad as the biggest quagmire since the Somme. ‘Ha, ha—you lose!’... Using this simple two-step method, anything and everything can be criticized without the critic ever having to commit to a single idea or stance.
And it works for any situation. Iran building nukes? ‘You lose!’ Using sanctions against Iran? ‘No fair! Sanctions hurt kids!’ Well how about a military strike then? ‘No fair! No war for oil!’ Let the Europeans deal with it? ‘No fair! America must provide leadership!’ Well then, let’s go it alone? ‘No fair! That’s unilateralism!’
No matter what the result or method, you can be confident it will be declared wrong by the Dems. If you actually do anything, you’re Dem’d if you do and Dem’d if you don’t.” —Mac Johnson

Letter to the editor: Which side are you on?
I was just re-reading a letter that a friend had written to The Daily News (Los Angeles) on 12-27-06 entitled "Make Up Your Mind."
Here it is, with timeless advice for any generation:
Here it is, with timeless advice for any generation:
Re: "Two wars, yet two hopes for peace" (Their Opinions, Dec. 25):
Rich Lowry quotes a Dec. 23, 1944, prayer: "Sir, this is (Gen. George) Patton talking. ... You have just got to make up your mind whose side you're on." The next day I was crossing the English Channel with the 66th Black Panther Infantry Division when one of our ships was hit by a German torpedo and more than 800 lives were lost.
I landed in Cherbourg on Christmas Day expecting to get into the Battle of the Bulge, but luckily for our division that did not happen. Unfortunately, there were approximately 80,000 casualties in that one battle among troops who were not as lucky. We are now in the most important war in our history, a war against an evil enemy whose goal is to kill all "infidels." The time has arrived when the media, politicians and the rest of us must decide whose side we are on.

NEW YORK TIMES: A War We Just Might Win
Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration’s miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily “victory” but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with. But there is enough good happening on the battlefields of Iraq today that Congress should plan on sustaining the effort at least into 2008
After the furnace-like heat, the first thing you notice when you land in Baghdad is the morale of our troops. In previous trips to Iraq we often found American troops angry and frustrated — many sensed they had the wrong strategy, were using the wrong tactics and were risking their lives in pursuit of an approach that could not work.
Today, morale is high. The soldiers and marines told us they feel that they now have a superb commander in Gen. David Petraeus; they are confident in his strategy, they see real results, and they feel now they have the numbers needed to make a real difference.

Shocking New York Times Poll
The war in Iraq is the single most important ongoing news story right now. Public opinion about the war is a critical part of that story. That’s why when we had a poll finding about the war that we could not explain, we went back and did another poll on the very same subject. We wanted to make sure we had gotten it right.

What's changed in America in the last 60 years?
WHILE Congress, the president and the media play politics with questions of victory in Iraq, as a combat veteran and student of history, I think we should consider a far more fundamental question: Can America ever win another war?So what's changed?
What might seem silly on its face is magnified to full significance in the looking glass of history. Should we retreat from the battlefield in Iraq - which is what anything short of legitimate victory would be - America will have established a 60-year record of failing to prevail against strategically significant enemies.
Certainly not soldiers' character. The military's dissatisfaction with the war reflects not desire to retreat, but rather frustration with the "rules of engagement" and politically dictated resourcing that restrict them from taking the fight to the enemy.Robert C. J. Parry is a National Guard veteran of Iraq. Read more.
What has changed is America's stomach for the fight. This is reflected in months of resistance to the obvious need for a greater tactical commitment. It is displayed in congressional games that ultimately focus on surrender for domestic political advantage, regardless of the cost.
But, most significantly, it is shown in voters who cannot compare Baghdad 2007 with Bastogne 1944 (unless they watched "Band of Brothers"), and who would rather flip over to "American Idol," anyway. It is citizens who find three deaths per day repulsive, while ignorant that their freedom was won in battles with casualty reports rounded to the nearest thousand.
For much as we seem to already have forgotten the shock and pain of 9-11, we have equally forgotten that there once was no America, and that its birth came at a price.

The Enemy At Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11
Whenever Muslims charge that the war on terror is really a war against Islam, Americans hasten to assure them they are wrong. Yet as Dinesh D’Souza argues in this powerful and timely polemic, these Muslim critics of America are right--there really is a war against Islam. Only this war is not being waged by Christian conservatives bent on a moral crusade to impose democracy abroad, as many liberals maintain, but by the American cultural left, which has for years been vigorously exporting its domestic war against religion and traditional morality to the rest of the world.
By the “cultural left” D’Souza does not mean all liberals or even all Democrats, but the militant secularists, feminists and gay activists who make up the left wing of the Democratic party, along with their allies in Hollywood, the academy, the antiwar movement, and the human rights establishment. D’Souza contends that the cultural left is responsible for 9/11 in two ways: by fostering a decadent and depraved American culture that angers and repulses other societies--especially traditional and religious ones; and by promoting, at home and abroad, an anti-American attitude that blames America for all the problems of the world.
Why did 9/11 occur? D’Souza traces the roots to the Khomeini revolution, the first regime to target America as the Great Satan. He documents the role of the Carter administration and its left-wing allies in displacing the Shah and consolidating Khomeini’s rule. D’Souza also shows that after the Cold War the radical Muslims were fighting to overthrow their local governments, what they termed the “near enemy.” But then Bin Laden and others got the idea that perhaps the United States—the “far enemy”—was even more vulnerable than the near enemy. Starting in the mid-1990s, Islamic radicals tested their theory of American weakness by launching a series of strikes against American targets, such as the Khobar Tower facility in Saudi Arabia, the two U.S. embassies in Africa, and the U.S.S. Cole. During this period the Clinton administration was focused on its own political and
D’Souza shows that Islamic anti-Americanism is not merely a reaction to U.S. foreign policy but is also rooted in a revulsion against what Muslims perceive to be the atheism and moral depravity of American popular culture. “They don’t hate us for our freedom,” D’Souza writes, “They hate us for how we use our freedom.” Muslims and other traditional people around the world allege that American values are being imposed on their societies, and these values undermine religious belief, weaken the traditional family, and corrupt the innocence of children. Muslim fears are largely justified, but it is not “America” that is doing this to them, it is the cultural left. What traditional societies consider repulsive and immoral, the cultural left considers progressive and liberating.
Taking issue with those on the right who speak of a “clash of civilizations,” D’Souza argues that the war on terror is really a war for the hearts and minds of traditional Muslims—and traditional peoples everywhere. The only way to win the struggle with radical Islam is to convince traditional Muslims that America is on their side. To prove this the U.S. must allow Muslim countries to defend Muslim interests and live according to their own moral precepts. Moreover, America’s leaders must contest the notion that liberal depravity equals American depravity. If America were to proclaim itself a Judeo-Christian society and stand up for the principles of traditional morality worldwide, this would greatly weaken the threat posed by radical Islam.
We are accustomed to thinking of the war on terror and the culture war as two distinct and separate struggles. D’Souza shows that they are really one and the same. Conservatives must recognize that the left is now allied with the Islamic radicals in a combined effort to defeat Bush’s war on terror. So Bush and the right are fighting not only a war against radical Islam, but also a political “war against the war” in America. A whole new strategy is needed to fight both wars. “In order to defeat the Islamic radicals abroad,” D’Souza writes, “we must defeat the enemy at home.”
