The post office in the sky
"The champions of socialism call themselves progressives, but they recommend a system which is characterized by rigid observance of routine and by a resistance to every kind of improvement. They call themselves liberals, but they are intent upon abolishing liberty. They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship. They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent. They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the world into a gigantic post office. Every man but one a subordinate clerk in a bureau. What an alluring utopia! What a noble cause to fight!"--Ludwig von Mises (Bureaucracy, 1944. Yale University Press. 1969, New Rochelle, NY: Arlington House)

"Intellectuals have always disdained commerce." --Whole Foods co-founder and co-CEO John Mackey
Reason’s Nick Gillespie interviews Whole Foods co-founder and co-CEO John Mackey, who discusses his views on why intellectuals hate capitalism (they’re jealous, they side with rulers and aristocrats, and they really don’t understand how markets work) and why he opposes the minimum wage and Obamacare.WATCH VIDEO

A Biblical View of Economics
In reality, the Bible speaks to economic issues more than any other issue. Whole sections of the book of Proverbs and many of the parables of Jesus deal with economic matters. They tell us what our attitude should be toward wealth and how a Christian should handle his or her finances. The Bible also provides a description of human nature, which helps us evaluate the possible success of an economic system in society.READ MORE
The Bible teaches that there are two aspects to human nature. First, we are created in the image of God and thus able to control the economic system. But second, human beings are sinful and thus tend towards greed and exploitation. This points to the need to protect individuals from human sinfulness in the economic system. So Christians have a much more balanced view of economics and can therefore construct economic theories and analyze existing economic systems.
Christians should see the fallacy of such utopian economic theories because they fail to take seriously human sinfulness. Instead of changing people from the inside out as the gospel does, Marxists believe that people will be changed from the outside in. Change the economic base, they say, and you will change human beings. This is one of the reasons that Marxism was doomed to failure, because it did not take into account human sinfulness and our need for spiritual redemption.

What does Thanksgiving have to do with Capitalism?
| THE FIRST THANKSGIVING CELEBRATED THE BOUNTY OF CAPITALISM |
| Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler | |
| Thursday, 27 November 2014 | |
On Thanksgiving Day, Americans gather with their family and friends to celebrate the blessings that Providence has bestowed on their beloved country. A deep appreciation of these blessings involves understanding that they were earned. It is to understand the awesome truth of how "God helps those who help themselves" applies to the Mayflower Pilgrims and their First Thanksgiving at America's birth. This is an appreciation and understanding of which those on the Left are incapable - for it would mean celebrating the capitalist freedom that made that original Thanksgiving possible. This no liberal, no Democrat, no leftie can do. Thus they must distort history instead. The distortion starts in Kindergarten, with the childish make-believe of your kid's school play portraying the noble Squanto teaching the helpless Pilgrims how to feed themselves. So let's drop the curtain on the distortion and watch the real thing. Here it is. The real history of the Mayflower Pilgrims was recounted by their leader, William Bradford (1590-1657) in his book Of Plymouth Plantation, completed in 1647. It is from Bradford that we learn of Squanto, who did indeed show the Pilgrims how to "set" or plant corn (a new unfamiliar crop for them). Then we learn that the Pilgrims taught the Indians how to grow more corn than they ever had before: "The Indeans used to have nothing so much corne as they have since the English have stored them with their hoes, and seene their industrie in breaking up new grounds therwith."Reading the real history of the Pilgrims is so revelatory that I want you to see it at length. The Pilgrims landed in December 1620, suffered a horrible winter, figured out how to fish and hunt that spring and summer so that there may have been some sort of feast with friendly Indians in the fall of 1621 - although Bradford doesn't recount the incident. But by 1622 they were starving. There was no "Thanksgiving" that year. There was the next - for 1623 saw the Pilgrims in well-fed abundance, and thus was the year of the real First Thanksgiving. What made the difference? Here are Bradford's own words (albeit with modern spelling like "been" instead of "bene" - the original spelling is in the link above; the parentheses are his, the explanatory brackets are mine), describing Anno Dom.1623: It may be thought strange that these people should fall to these extremities in so short a time, being left competently provided when the ship [the Mayflower] left them, and had an addition by that moyetie [portion] of corn that was got by trade, besides much they got of the Indians where they lived, by one means and other. By the time harvest was come [fall 1623], instead of famine, now God gave them plenty, and the face of things was changed, to the rejoicing of the hearts of many, for which they blessed God.That is as effective a refutation of socialism and affirmation of capitalism as there has ever been. The Pilgrims were starving, stealing and begging from the Indians under a no private property/everybody work for the common good economy. They switch to a private property/everybody work for themselves economy, and within one season there is abundance for all. But how can Lefties and Zero-Reid-Pelosi Democrats be thankful for this? They cannot and are not. Their goal is not abundance. Their goal is deprivation - for where there is deprivation there must be victims, victims who can be manipulated to acquire power. Bradford's history - the real history of Thanksgiving - is there in plain black and white, undeniable and irrefutable for anyone to see. It is the history that should be taught to our schoolchildren but is not. It is ignored and denied. It likely is the very first time you yourself have ever seen Bradford's words. Liberals, Democrats, and members of America's Fascist Left may very well be enjoying this day - enjoying good food, good wine, good friends and family. Let's hope they are. We should not begrudge them this moment of good cheer. But what is impossible, or at least difficult for them is to enjoy being American, being thankful for America, to celebrate theabundance of America, the abundance of its material and spiritual well-being thanks to the private property capitalism that made the first Thanksgiving and all those that followed possible. Any celebration of theirs is always a yes...but thankfulness. "Yes, we have much to be thankful for on this day, but we must never forget what we did to the Indians and the slaves, that there is still too much poverty and racism in America, blah, blah, blah..." The purpose of Thanksgiving is to be thankful for being American. This is the day to celebrate the goodness of our country - the moral goodness, the moral decency of American institutions, American history, and the character of the American people. Without any buts. It's easy for conservatives to do this - it comes natural to us. It's the opposite for liberals, who relish and revel in incessant guilt-mongering - and can't celebrate a Thanksgiving with no buts. So this day, we can relish and revel in the capitalist freedom and abundance that Providence enabled the Pilgrims to choose, and create America thereby. That freedom and abundance is today being threatened as never before by a Fascist Left determined to destroy it. Now more than ever is the time to focus anew on all that we love about our country, to know that Providence has always smiled upon it - for we, like the Pilgrims have the capacity to choose capitalist freedom over socialist slavery. With that choice, the original Americans created a civilization out of the wilderness. With that choice, we Americans of today can rescue our civilization from the wilderness of the Fascist Left led by President Zero. That choice liberates us from their power-lust and make us impervious to the poison of anti-America hate that eats at all liberal souls. That is why we are what they are not: grateful for our country, for the very existence of America, for the priceless privilege of being an American. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. |

The return of capitalism will not happen until there is a moral revolution in this country.
Socialism vs. Capitalism: Which is the Moral System
On Principle, v1n3
October 1993
by C. Bradley Thompson
Throughout history there have been two basic forms of social organization: collectivism and individualism. In the twentieth-century collectivism has taken many forms: socialism, fascism, nazism, welfare-statism and communism are its more notable variations. The only social system commensurate with individualism is laissez-faire capitalism.
The extraordinary level of material prosperity achieved by the capitalist system over the course of the last two-hundred years is a matter of historical record. But very few people are willing to defend capitalism as morally uplifting.
It is fashionable among college professors, journalists, and politicians these days to sneer at the free-enterprise system. They tell us that capitalism is base, callous, exploitative, dehumanizing, alienating, and ultimately enslaving.
The intellectuals’ mantra runs something like this: In theory socialism is the morally superior social system despite its dismal record of failure in the real world. Capitalism, by contrast, is a morally bankrupt system despite the extraordinary prosperity it has created. In other words, capitalism at best, can only be defended on pragmatic grounds. We tolerate it because it works.
Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.
The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another’s wealth but also the desire to see another’s wealth lowered to the level of one’s own. Socialism’s teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: “Common good comes before private good.” Fascism, said Mussolini, is ” a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests…realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies.”
Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.
Despite the intellectuals’ psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.
Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders–that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.
Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.
It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one’s birth or station in life.
Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient.
Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.
But how does the entrepreneurial mind work? Have you ever wondered about the mental processes of the men and women who invented penicillin, the internal combustion engine, the airplane, the radio, the electric light, canned food, air conditioning, washing machines, dishwashers, computers, etc.?
What are the characteristics of the entrepreneur? The entrepreneur is that man or woman with unlimited drive, initiative, insight, energy, daring creativity, optimism and ingenuity. The entrepreneur is the man who sees in every field a potential garden, in every seed an apple. Wealth starts with ideas in people’s heads.
The entrepreneur is therefore above all else a man of the mind. The entrepreneur is the man who is constantly thinking of new ways to improve the material or spiritual lives of the greatest number of people.
And what are the social and political conditions which encourage or inhibit the entrepreneurial mind? The free-enterprise system is not possible without the sanctity of private property, the freedom of contract, free trade and the rule of law.
But the one thing that the entrepreneur values over all others is freedom–the freedom to experiment, invent and produce. The one thing that the entrepreneur dreads is government intervention. Government taxation and regulation are the means by which social planners punish and restrict the man or woman of ideas.
Welfare, regulations, taxes, tariffs, minimum-wage laws are all immoral because they use the coercive power of the state to organize human choice and action; they’re immoral because they inhibit or deny the freedom to choose how we live our lives; they’re immoral because they deny our right to live as autonomous moral agents; and they’re immoral because they deny our essential humanity. If you think this is hyperbole, stop paying your taxes for a year or two and see what happens.
The requirements for success in a free society demand that ordinary citizens order their lives in accordance with certain virtues–namely, rationality, independence, industriousness, prudence, frugality, etc. In a free capitalist society individuals must choose for themselves how they will order their lives and the values they will pursue. Under socialism, most of life’s decisions are made for you.
Both socialism and capitalism have incentive programs. Under socialism there are built-in incentives to shirk responsibility. There is no reason to work harder than anyone else becuase the rewards are shared and therefore minimal to the hard-working individual; indeed, the incentive is to work less than others because the immediate loss is shared and therefore minimal to the slacker.
Under capitalism, the incentive is to work harder because each producer will receive the total value of his production–the rewards are not shared. Simply put: socialism rewards sloth and penalizes hard work while capitalism rewards hard work and penalizes sloth.
According to socialist doctrine, there is a limited amount of wealth in the world that must be divided equally between all citizens. One person’s gain under such a system is another’s loss.
According to the capitalist teaching, wealth has an unlimited growth potential and the fruits of one’s labor should be retained in whole by the producer. But unlike socialism, one person’s gain is everybody’s gain in the capitalist system. Wealth is distributed unequally but the ship of wealth rises for everyone.
Sadly, America is no longer a capitalist nation. We live under what is more properly called a mixed economy–that is, an economic system that permits private property, but only at the discretion of government planners. A little bit of capitalism and a little bit of socialism.
When government redistributes wealth through taxation, when it attempts to control and regulate business production and trade, who are the winners and losers? Under this kind of economy the winners and losers are reversed: the winners are those who scream the loudest for a handout and the losers are those quiet citizens who work hard and pay their taxes.
As a consequence of our sixty-year experiment with a mixed economy and the welfare state, America has created two new classes of citizens. The first is a debased class of dependents whose means of survival is contingent upon the forced expropriation of wealth from working citizens by a professional class of government social planners. The forgotten man and woman in all of this is the quiet, hardworking, lawabiding, taxpaying citizen who minds his or her own business but is forced to work for the government and their serfs.
The return of capitalism will not happen until there is a moral revolution in this country. We must rediscover and then teach our young the virtues associated with being free and independent citizens. Then and only then, will there be social justice in America.

Ask the right questions
From Barbara Cirks, President of the Canoga Park-West Hills Repoublican Womens Federated:
Don Jan’s book, My Grandchildrens’ America, Will it still be the Land of the Free And the Home of the Brave?is a brilliant discussion of whether the American dream will be available to our children and grandchildren. Don’s motivation for writing his book was his realization that Karl Marx was not an economist but a political philosopher. This opened Don’s eyes to the dynamics of Obama, the Democrats and liberalism in general.
Don tells us we need to ask the right questions of our fellow citizens, not attack them with buzzwords such as Marxism, Communism and Socialism. Let’s learn to ask them these fundamental questions in which the transformational left believes:
- Does Obama believe in a heavy progressive graduated income tax?
- Does Obama believe in heavy death taxes?
- Does Obama believe in centralized government?
- Does Obama believe in strict environmental and consumer controls?
- Does Obama believe in federal control of communications and transportation?
- Does Obama believe in federal regulation and control over banks, and other financial institutions, and private companies?
- Does Obama believe labor should be unionized and that these unions should have a say in management?
- Does Obama believe in confiscation of private property for the greater good of the community?
- Does Obama believe the rights of the community supersede the rights of the individual?
The answer to all these questions is, of course, yes. Obama and all his underlings do believe in these statements and want to use them to transform America from a free, individualistic and capitalist society into huge centralized, government-controlled way of life.

Introducing THE USA PLAN
The USA Plan is bold and truly revolutionary. It should satisfy both capitalists and collectivists, Republicans and Democrats, Libertarians and Anarchists and everyone in between because it makes the poor, the middle-class and the rich wealthier – in fact it delivers the American Dream to just about everyone.
The USA Plan is designed to increase the wealth of all citizens not just the few. It is triggered by the reduction of taxes imposed on them by government. The Plan is based on the Rise Up Theory of Economics which elevates the financial rights of the individual over those of the state.
The Rise Up Theory does for the poor and middle class what the "Trickle Down" Theory did for the rich - it makes them wealthy. It closes the gap between the rich and the poor and eliminates the cry for social justice. It reduces the income disparity which has become a major political issue for which no party has been proposing a workable solution. The USA Plan is that solution.
It is a simple concept, it redirects the 15.3% presently paid by individuals (and in the case of employees, their employers too) in the form of payroll taxes into a personally-owned investment account ( a “USA” – a Universal Savings Account)) that will grow into millions over the citizen's working life. The funds are invested in safe indexed stock funds that have historically been growing at over a 10% rate for the last 25 years.
At that rate of return a taxpayer or household making an average $50,000 per year would invest 15% per year or $7,500 and generate over a 40-year working life a $4 million nest egg. Go to the website www.theusaplan.com to review the year by year analysis of how the $300,000 ($7,500 x 40 years) accumulates, grows and compounds into a $4 million-dollar nest egg which will throw off a $33,000 a month retirement check.
As it will not require a taxpayer to invest his after-tax dollars into IRA or similar retirement plans it will cost no more than what is presently being taken by government. Americans can then use their after-tax cash to support their chosen lifestyles. The USA Plan will insure them of an affluent retirement and enough monthly income to buy the best medical care on the planet. The Plan eliminates the need to save for retirement.
As we know all private and public pension funds are all heavily invested in the stock market. By creating a vehicle to fund the growth of the private sector the investment of “USA” funds will immediately create millions of new jobs while at the same time guaranteeing the taxpayer a million-dollar nest egg at retirement. It will explode the overall wealth of the nation. The USA Plan is a short- term solution as well as a long-term solution we all are looking for.
Man has been saddled with poverty since the beginning of time. The few who were fortunate enough to be born into wealth or smart enough to accumulate it throughout history have always been a very small number of people. American independence changed all that to enable more 0f the population to become wealthy.
Unfortunately one-hundred years ago that independence permitted the people to give the right to tax incomes to the state which has been perverted into a mechanism to funnel wealth to the very few who know how to legally avoid taxation - Guys like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates whose fortunes have never been taxed because we don’t tax the appreciation in value until the stock is sold.
America has never attempted to solve the riddle of poverty but has left that up to the individual. He or she either sinks or swims AFTER TAXES. And there is the problem. By punitive taxation and suffocating regulation that raise all costs of living most Americans can’t save or work their way out of poverty. The talk of the American Dream of financial independence is just that – talk.
The Rise Up Theory of Economics as incorporated in the USA Plan will solve the riddle of poverty and generate all kinds of peripheral benefits not the least of which will be the elimination of war as soon as the Plan is adopted throughout the world.
War is not waged by people who want to protect their property.
Of course “peace on earth” depends on America leading the way and exercising leadership and resolve not to change or weaken the
USA Plan.
