2013: YEAR OF THE ABSURD
Cross-posted at MareZilla.com
I was driving to do some errands recently and heard a caller on one of my favorite talk radio stations make a statement about the absurdity of the whole country hanging on every word coming from a couple of guys in D.C. who are deciding who gets to keep what and who gets stuff taken away from them to give to someone else.
Is this America?
Apparently, it is.
While half the country (at least) hasn't a clue about who the country's leaders are or even what the major issues are (Benghazi: "Ben who?"), the rest of us have spent our new year holiday with an ear tuned in to discover what the hell our fates will be in 2013 and beyond.
This has got to stop, but I'm not sure where to start.
It began with Karl Marx, the Fabian Socialists, the Frankfurt School, Woodrow Wilson, John Dewey, the Roosevelt boys (Franklin and Teddy), and--sealed in law--the two biggies from 1913: the creature from Jekyll Island (the Fed) and the income tax law.
Some say it happened with the 17th Amendment when Senators became elected instead of appointed.
Salon weighed in on this last August: Why would anyone want to take away people’s rights to elect their senators?
I just saw on Facebook that Mark Levin is cutting his vacation short to return to the air on Thursday and Friday of this week.
He's never given up yet, and I doubt he would return just to monitor events (there are plenty of other sources for that). So I'm looking for an idea or two--because I'm out of 'em for now.

Sen. Mike Lee, the Ivy League-educated Tea Party judicial mastermind from Utah, told CNN in 2010 that “the 17th Amendment was a mistake.” Texas Gov. Rick Perry also called the amendment “mistaken,” as did Rep. Paul Broun, a Republican from Georgia. Even conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said in 2010,The enormous weight of all these years filled with missteps, both judicial and political, have made the saving of the United States as founded seem as insurmountable as Frodo's quest to destroy the ring.“I would change it back to what they wrote, in some respects. The 17th Amendment has changed things enormously … [Y]ou can trace the decline of so-called states’ rights throughout the rest of the 20th century.”Alaska’s 2010 Republican nominee Joe Miller and perennial GOP candidate Alan Keyes have also signed on to the cause.

Understanding Obama's Pro-Islamist Policy
What must be said...
Endnote: It must also be said--on the eve of the Jewish New Year--that there are people inside and around the Obama administration who consider Israel's very establishment to have been a mistake. These individuals regard Islamism as pliable and useful and in sync with history's "moral arc." Israel, the reborn Jewish state--thriving, against all odds--and Zionism, the national liberation movement of the Jewish people, which successfully solved the problem of Jewish political homelessness, are considered by such officials and advisers as at best anachronisms to be tolerated. At worst, they long for Israel's step-by-step dismantlement, or sudden destruction, and effectively--functionally--aid and make common cause with the enemies of the Jewish people who work night and day to complete Hitler's genocidal project.READ MORE

NEW YEAR HUMOR
What did a caterpillar do on New Year's Day? – It turns over a new leaf.
What’s once in a minute, twice in a moment, and never in a thousand years? - The letter M!
Did you hear about the three million dollar Redneck Lottery? - The winner gets three dollars a year for a million years.
What do vampires sing on New Year's Eve? - Auld Fang Syne!
Why did the man refuse to eat snails? - He only ate fast food.
Why do dragons sleep during the day? - So they can fight knights.
Why was the queen's room flooded? - Because she reigned for many years!
And,
What does the dentist of the year get? - A little plaque.

2011: The beginning of the end of the great American health care system
WSJ:
New taxes on drug makers, lower prescription-drug costs for seniors and restrictions on tax-free medical spending accounts are among a slate of health-law provisions that kick in Saturday.Big Health-Care Changes Arrive in New Year
The changes show how the law will begin to reshape American health care, even as opponents try to overturn the measure in Congress and the courts.
Although House Republicans are threatening to starve the law of funding and stage a symbolic repeal vote, those actions aren't likely to block any significant pieces of the law aimed at consumers for 2011. That's because the changes generally involve new rules and don't require spending.
"The debate over defunding and repeal is going to be much more of a political story in 2011 than something that actually means something for consumers immediately," said Larry Levitt, vice president at the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation.
Over the longer term, however, Republicans could succeed in thwarting funding for staff and grants needed to put the law in place. The biggest changes, including new health-insurance exchanges and subsidies for lower earners, are set to happen in 2014.

DON'T FORGET YOUR DREAMS!
It is sad to witness the lack of direction and lack of purpose that some people have in their lives. I’m not talking about our youth. In fact, many of our youth seem to have plans and goals that are encouraging and inspiring. I’m concerned about mature, capable adults who used to have dreams and goals when they were young but have given up on those dreams and now seem resolved to be content with whatever life has dealt them.A New Year message from Frank L. Vandersloot,
I believe that one of the saddest scenarios I can imagine is when someone gives up on their dreams. In many respects giving up on our dreams is worse than the loss of a loved one. To give up on our goals may be, in essence, to not fulfill the purpose of our own creation. To allow life to happen to us as opposed to making life happen is one of life’s greatest potential tragedies.
I have learned that anything is possible to those who are persistent in the pursuit of their dreams. Sure, we meet roadblocks! Sure, there are hurdles. Sure, things don’t always turn out exactly how we planned. But what a tragedy when we interpret those setbacks as making our dreams impossible to reach—or worse yet, interpret our current failure as meaning we are failures and incapable of success.
If there were a gift that I could give this year, it would be to have everyone remember back to when they were young, when they had goals and dreams. I would have them remember those goals and dreams in detail, and wake them up with the realization that it is not too late. Our life can still be what we wanted it to be! We can accomplish and do everything we wanted to do. Oh sure, we are going to have to change some things. If we keep doing what we’ve been doing, we’ll keep getting what we’ve been getting. But we can change some things as long as we know where we are going and know that if we keep at it we will get there.
I would challenge everyone to remember our past hopes and dreams and write them down on paper as goals. Solidify them! Think about them! Decide what has to change in order to reach them. Commit to doing those things, and go for it. Be prepared for setbacks, but never give up until you reach your goal.
I would challenge those of you who are married to ask your spouse about the dreams and goals he or she had at a younger age. Find out which dreams have not come true. Together, see if you can’t wake up some of those dreams. And make a plan together to make these dreams come true. If you truly throw your heart into helping your spouse reach his or her goals, I can promise you both a very rewarding experience—not only in the end result, but in the journey as well.
