FROM A VERY POLITICALLY ASTUTE, INTELLIGENT, LONG-TIME REPUBLICAN ON WHY SHE IS LEAVING THE PARTY (even if Trump gets elected):

Because of people like Paul Ryan, Mike Lee, Mitt Romney, John Thune, etc. all the so-called Republican elites who have never endorsed Donald Trump or who are now fecklessly running away from him.

Because of people like Hugh Hewitt and Condi Rice who have called for him to step down.

Because of the never ending #NeverTrump movement led by so called Republicans and Conservatives.

Because George H. W. Bush has stated he will vote for Hillary.

These are not people I want to be associated with. This is not a Republican Party I want to be a part of.

I’m surprised you even have to ask why.

Civil War: Hugh Hewitt's own private sesquicentennial celebration

Transcripts:
I’m kicking off three days of my own private sesquicentennial celebration of the end of the siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Gettysburg today, tomorrow and Friday. On Friday, I’ll be joined by Victor Davis Hanson and Larry Arnn talking about the Battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War generally. Tomorrow, Harry Jaffa joins me to talk about the Declaration of Independence and the roots of that conflict. Next hour, I’m going to be joined by Jeff Shaara, whose new book on Vicksburg has just come out, and you do not want to miss that amazing novel. More coming up on that next hour, but I begin my three day sesquicentennial celebration with none other than Rich Lowry, who’s the editor of National Review and has been for a decade and a half. He’s of course a syndicated columnist. You see him a lot on Fox News. And he’s the author of a terrific new book in bookstores now, Lincoln Unbound: How An Ambitious Young Rail-Splitter Saved The American Dream, And How We Can Do It Again.
Rich Lowry On Lincoln Unbound
On this July 3rd, the eve of the Declaration of Independence celebration, it is also the 2nd day of the sesquicentennial celebration, commemoration, call it what you will, of the Battle of Gettysburg. And it is two days before the sesquicentennial remembrance of the surrender of Vicksburg. And as I looked around to find someone to deal with both of those battles, I could find no one better than Jeff Shaara, novelist extraordinaire, whose brand new book, A Chain Of Thunder, I read on my recent vacation, along with the book that preceded it, A Blaze Of Glory. They are both linked over at Hughhewitt.com, because I’ve always believed that the best way in to a part of history you do not know is through historical fiction followed by history of the traditional sort.
Historical Novelist Jeff Shaara On The 150th Anniversary Of Vicksburg And Gettysburg
I am completing my third day of the celebration of the sesquicentennial of, I think, the most significant week in American history, the week that the Civil War was actually put on a course that would lead to the Union victory, and to the triumph of the republic. Joining me for the first two hours today, Victor Davis Hanson, extraordinarily successful and well-known military historian, frequent guest on the program, and a prolific author. In the third hour today, Dr. Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College will join me to talk about the political theory of Abraham Lincoln who led the Union through this.
Victor Davis Hanson On Vicksburg And Gettysburg
I hope you have enjoyed these three days of commemoration of perhaps the most important week in American history, the week of, the first week of July in 1863 is the week in which everything changed in favor of the Union. The long and bloody war in the west, Vicksburg surrendered, and in the east, Gettysburg was won by the forces of the Union, though not elegantly. And to talk about the man and the theory who stood atop all of that is Dr. Larry Arnn, because this is the time of the Hillsdale Dialogue, where once a week, I talk about, usually with Dr. Arnn, a great work of the West. And today, in honor of this week 150 years ago, we’re talking about a great man of the West, Abraham Lincoln.

IRS: “What was the content of your prayers?” - UPDATE

Hugh Hewitt: THE HEARING

From THE RIGHT SCOOP:
Wow. This was an amazing speech by Rep. Mike Kelly as he puts this IRS scandal in the proper perspective, even questioning why the IRS Commissioner isn’t outraged by this. He tells the commissioner that this is a huge scandal because it reconfirms to the American people the things they fear about dealing with the IRS and calls it a huge blow to the faith and trust the American people have in their government.

Kelly’s speech was so good he gets a standing ovation at the end. Watch:

We're not stupid anymore: Key Facts of the Medicare Debate

Hugh Hewitt:
All of the facts are against Obama/Biden, and Mitt Romney chose a running mate who is very, very accomplished at communicating these facts. Paul Ryan is a walking, talking 5-Hour Energy Drink of concise and compelling arguments about the future. The MSM ignoring those facts, calling him "radical," are the Geoffrey Dawsons of our era, and even as Dawson campaigned in the Times of London against Churchill throughout the '30s, so they are covering for a deeply disingenuous president and party. It won't work. Your reading this post is itself an example of why it won't.

Hugh Hewitt talks about the late Christopher Hitchens - UPDATE

Transcripts are available.
I will replay my last interview with Christopher Hitchens --a three hour conversation about his autobiography-- sometime between now and the New Year. He was a joy to interview and a wonder to listen to debate, unfailingly gracious to me, my other guests and my audience. . .

We spent a great deal of time discussing God, and I hope and pray I am correct in my views and that he can concede to me on that subject when we meet again.
Christopher Hitchens, RIP

UPDATE - ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW FROM DANIEL GREENFIELD (SULTAN KNISH)

Friday Afternoon Roundup - A Letter from Goebbels
UNHITCHED

I have nothing particular to say about the death of Hitchens. I have always believed that we face a larger threat that requires us to make common cause with people we disagree with and even people who hate us. Speaking as a Jew, Hitchens certainly fell into that category. He was a lefty who made the somewhat unique decision not to follow his movement from supporting Arab Socialist terrorists to supporting Muslim terrorists. That he was one of the few not to do so is more damning of the left than it is a praise of him.

Hitchens hated Jews, he hated Christians and he hated Muslims. That made him an ally of sorts and an enemy of sorts, Benjamin Kerstein at the Jewish Daily sums up most of the relevant stuff. Like others on the Counterjihad atheist left, he didn't like Israel or Jews, but he recognized that Islam was the larger threat.

I see no real point in penning completely misleading headlines like Ron Kampeas' "Christopher Hitchens, contrarian who embraced and battled Judaism, dead at 62". It's about as far from the truth as imaginable, except his name, age and the contrarian part. . .

2012: Get ready for Basel III

Hugh Hewitt: Tuesday, November 08, 2011
Did the Administration Drive Another Nail Into Its Reelection Coffin This Past Week?
At the G20 meeting on the French Riviera last week, the president agreed to begin implementing a set of international banking rules that could well send the United States in a renewed downward spiral between May and August 2012.

The rules are called Basel III. They require that banks increase their ratio of capital to loans. In effect this means that banks must do less lending.

JSOC: TOP SECRET

The CIA’s armed drones and paramilitary forces have killed dozens of al-Qaeda leaders and thousands of its foot soldiers. But there is another mysterious organization that has killed even more of America’s enemies in the decade since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. CIA operatives have imprisoned and interrogated nearly 100 suspected terrorists in their former secret prisons around the world, but troops from this other secret organization have imprisoned and interrogated 10 times as many, holding them in jails that it alone controls in Iraq and Afghanistan.
‘Top Secret America’: A look at the military’s Joint Special Operations Command

Hugh Hewitt Show, Saturday, September 03, 2011:
General Jerry Boykin on Kiloton Threat, and disgraceful action at the Washington Post, releasing Special Operations secrets
HH: Now while that story unfolds, attention is going to be on a new book, and a new series in the Washington Post, Top Secret America: The Rise Of The New American Security State, by Dana Priest and a name I’m sure is familiar to you, William Arkin.

JB: Yeah.

HH: And it reveals operational secrets, General. What do you think of this? And what do you think of Arkin?

JB: Well, you know, I’ve had a lot of experience with Arkin. Arkin came after me, and Dana Priest has a record very similar to Arkin’s of exposing things that are very sensitive. Arkin, remember, he wrote the book Code Words. It exposed the code words of many, many very sensitive programs in our government, not just the Department of Defense. Arkin is not just anti-American, I mean anti-military, but he is very much anti-American. I think the guy is, frankly, I think he’s a hard-core Marxist. And if it was 1960, I think he’d be a leader in the Weather Underground. And Dana Priest has done similar kinds of things in exposing very sensitive programs. I can’t tell you what their agenda is other than they are very anti-American.

HH: Now I referred to Arkin earlier today as scum, because his record of attacking the military as mercenaries, and other attacks, not just on you, but I mean generally, he’s so anti-military and so anti-American, the Institute For Policy Studies, Greenpeace, he’s got this long lefty pedigree. What is the Washington Post doing, General, publishing this stuff. It’s not…there will be nutters and left wing extremists like Arkin out there. But why is the Washington Post aiding and abetting them?

JB: Well, I certainly can’t answer for the leadership of the Washington Post, but the Washington Post has a history of doing this, particularly with Dana Priest, who has been working with the Washington Post for a very long time. And I must tell you, I think this is an example of how the 1st Amendment was never intended to have an open press without some check and balance, without some accountability for what they do. And this is another example of how that can be very damaging to the nation.

HH: When a newspaper publishes the nicknames and the code names for some of the Special Operators, like Task Force Green, secret army in Northern Virginia, Task Force 11, Task Force 121, when they talk very specifically about where the new headquarters is, what the new operational command is, does that help the enemy?

JB: Of course it helps the enemy, and it also discourages the brave, young Americans that are playing by the rules, and taking some very high risks, and making a lot of sacrifices. It’s very discouraging to them, but it also encourages the enemy very much, because they see themselves being on the winning side, and they’re using our civil liberties against us. And it concerns me a great deal.

HH: Should we have released as much information as we did about the bin Laden mission?

JB: No, and it’s interesting. I was just talking to someone two days ago about that, and I will tell you that that was all a political ploy. You’re going to see a movie about it come out the 1st of October. The producers and so forth have been integrated into a number of things now with the administration. And I must tell you, this whole thing is political. It is trying to build the credibility of this president as the commander-in-chief, and as a substantial leader. And I think that it is disgraceful, because you never heard who got Saddam Hussein. You heard the 4th Infantry Division. Well, I happen to know that embedded in there, the people that really got him, was a Special Operations element. But nobody talked about who that was. There was no fanfare on that. But that wasn’t used for political purposes.

HH: I will be right back. One more segment with General, retired General William G. Jerry Boykin.

HUGH HEWITT: "We are stuck with Chauncey Gardener for another year-and-a-half."

The best use of the time of Tea Party activists and grassroots Republicans is on the Senate campaigns listed in this column at Townhall.com. If Mandel/Hasner/Cruz et al sweep into office along with a new president and an expanded House majority, imagine the overhaul that could follow within 100 days. (By contrast, imagine the market crash if Obama managed a re-elect through a third party bit of mischief etc).

The real recovery is two years away, but it can get here, and it can be big.
