The most infamous demand of The Communist Manifesto is the “abolition of the family.”

Really, I don’t understand the left sometimes. They’re very upset at the practice of “family separation” of migrant children at the border (a practice that goes back many years, keep in mind), but then I return to my Communist Manifesto to remind myself that a key demand for achieving socialism is abolishing the family. Nationalizing the children has been a staple of socialist visions at least since Plato. So when it comes to the voters the left wants to attract from immigrant populations, mission accomplished! U.S. border policy is just giving the left a head start.

[Note: While author Steven Hayward is just using the border situation to make a point, I would like to remind my readers that the separation of children from parents at our border was signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1997 and enforced ever since, including the eight years of BHO's reign.]

The myth of Obama

From InstaPundit:
Barack Obama is a myth, our modern version of Pecos Bill or Paul Bunyan. What we were told is true, never had much basis in fact — a fact now increasingly clear as hype gives way to reality. . . . In short, the myth of Obama’s brilliance was based on his teleprompted eloquence, the sort of fable that says we should listen to a clueless Sean Penn or Matt Damon on politics because they can sometimes act well. Read Plato’s Ion on the difference between gifted rhapsody and wisdom — and Socrates’ warning about easily conflating the two. It need not have been so. At any point in a long career, Obama the rhapsode could have shunned the easy way, stuck his head in a book, and earned rather than charmed those (for whom he had contempt) for his rewards. Clinton was a browser with a near photographic memory who had pretensions of deeply-read wonkery; but he nonetheless browsed. Obama seems never to have done that.

DON'T BELIEVE THIS???

SORRY...IT'S REALLY TRUE...EVEN "60 MINUTES" THINKS SO...

Have you ever had a friend that was WAAAAAYYYYYY smarter than you?

A friend of mine recently went to England to present a paper at Oxford:
A shortened version of this paper was delivered to the Oxford Round Table session, "Perspectives on Ethical Sentiments," at Hertford College of Oxford University on March 25th, 2010.

If you'd like to dive into this - A Lecture On The Good - I wish you luck! Sometimes I wonder how Kelley can ever just sit around and chew the fat, but hey--he'll have a beer and hang around a bbq with the best of 'em :-)

Platonic arrogance

Our Philosopher-King Obama
By Victor Davis Hanson
In Plato's ideal society, philosopher kings and elite Guardians shepherded the rabble to force them to do the "right" thing.

To prevent the unwashed from doing anything stupid, the all-powerful, all-wise Guardians often had to tell a few "noble" lies. And, of course, these caretakers themselves were exempt from most rules they made for others.

We are now seeing such thinking in the Obama administration and among its supporters.
