That amounts to a $3.6 trillion tax increase over 10 years, three or four times the $800 billion to $1.2 trillion in revenue increases that Obama and Speaker John Boehner were kicking around. President Obama and his education secretary are facing a bipartisan revolt from almost 300 lawmakers, an inspector general's investigation and several lawsuits over a proposed crackdown on for-profit colleges, which train people for jobs ranging from plumbers to computer technicians.Now, why wouldn't Obama want people to train themselves for jobs, period...especially ones that would make them productive and independent people with skills unlike him and his ilk who occupy the exalted heights of academia (and who are currently completely wrecking the economy of this country)?

Too many on the Right seem to be missing the entire point. This 1/2 of 1/3 nonsense is just a DC talking point and nothing more. The House is specifically empowered as the only branch of government responsible for spending. What Boehner has done to make it appear as though he has accomplished more than he has, is to pick up the ball precisely where it was left when the Democrats controlled the House, as well as the rest of government, prior to November 2010. Even worse, there is and was no budget. They never passed one. Consequently, Boehner's professed cuts are being measured against a myth that doesn't and never has existed.
Rather than engage debate from a conservative Republican, fiscally responsible position, he has engaged it entirely on Democrat terms based upon a hypothetical budget that never existed, because it was never even submitted, let alone passed.
What that means is, the only thing Boehner will ever be successful in delivering is the very thing Republicans have been criticized about for years - Democrat-lite. Were he serious about getting spending in line and reducing government, he wouldn't be waging these battles on mythical battlefields that don't exist; he would allow his progress to be measured from a fiscally responsible position.
Just think–there once was a time (for more than a century, actually), when the president of the United States thought it too imperious to deliver the State of the Union via a speech to a joint session of Congress, since that would smack of telling a co-equal branch of government what to do. Now we have a president not just taking rhetorical sides in a state issue, but actively mobilizing his political organization to affect the outcome(s), even though (to my knowledge) nothing that Gov. Walker or any other belated statehouse cost-cutter is doing has a damned thing to do with federal law.Is This How a President Should Act?

Regarding John Boehner, Obama slammed the GOP leader eight times in Cleveland. He claimed "no new policies from Mr. Boehner," saying the Republican leader's philosophy "led to this mess in the first place: cut more taxes for millionaires and cut more rules for corporations."
Well, none of this is going to work come Nov. 2.
