President Obama is on the record as being officially opposed to reparations for slavery. But as with other issues, you have to sift through his eloquent rhetoric and go beyond the teleprompter to get at what he really means.

His opposition to reparations is based on the fact they don't go far enough. In a 2004 questionnaire, he told the NAACP, "I fear that reparations would be an excuse for some to say, 'We've paid our debt,' and to avoid the much harder work."

Never mind there are those who thought we apologized at Gettysburg and that an African-American president is a recognition of the hard work that has been done.

Some people I know thought that their own family members who gave their lives and limbs in the Civil War would have been reparations enough...not to mention one person who said:

Hey, my family is of Scandinavian and German descent all of whom immigrated long after the Civil War and they settled in the North, so they didn't have anything to do with Slavery or even racist Southern Policies. Why should my tax dollars go for reparations? I am sure many of not most Americans fall into this category as well, since many immigrants came in the late 1800's.

On this day of remembrance of Abraham Lincoln – the REPUBLICAN that freed the slaves – we should abide by his warning:

You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man's incentive and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do themselves.

IF we follow his advice we will destroy socialism and retain a free market capitalist system. The dependency state Obama is building is just another form of totalitarianism – a totally criminal enterprise.

If, as he has hinted, whites owe Blacks, and if he pushes for reparations, tell that no-good socialist that America has already paid its reparations: One white American died in the Civil War for every 5 black slaves free. Got that? One white American – not some enemy combatant – died for every 5 slaves.

That should be reparations enough.

Anyone remember the discussions about reparations for slavery?

During his 2004 senate race against Obama, Republican Alan Keyes endorsed the idea. "And for a generation, two generations you exempt them from taxation,” Keyes said in August 2004. Obama's responded, "The legacy of slavery is immeasurable, but the best strategies for moving forward would be vigorously enforcing our anti-discrimination laws in education and job training."
