Celebrating 10 years of THE JAWA REPORT

There was a brief period of time between maybe 2004 - 2005 when blogs were going to change the world. I never bought into that. I always thought of myself as "just a blogger". But "just a blogger" seemed better than the alternative, which was to sit back and do nothing. It was during this time when blogs were the new black that we were involved to a minor extent in a number of minor media scandals. Those included exposing major news outlets hiring stringers with ties to terrorists and in the phenomenon of "fauxtography". In fact, the post that drew more attention in 10 years than any other was the one which exposed a photo taken by a stringer in Lebanon as doctored proving that, in fact, many of those covering the war with Israel had an agenda. Reuters later fired the stringer and was forced to recall the photo (see pic at beginning of this post above). Hooray for blogs!

But I didn't start this blog to change the world. I started it to directly confront our enemies. To annoy them. To make fun of them. To be a thorn in their side. And that's what I've done.
And more:
I have never been one with either the inclination nor the ability to refrain from confronting evil when it needs to be confronted and it is in my power to do so.

Moreover, what I'm doing here isn't really all that important on the grand scale of things. The men and women in Afghanistan are the ones really confronting evil. Me, using a pen name, from the safely of my internet connection, what am I really doing?

In one sense I am not much better than the leftists and Islamist apologists that I started this blog to counter. They criticize the real heroes safely removed from reality by an internet connection. I confront those we fight from that same safety.

But if I am unable to carry a rifle the least I am able to do is defend those that do. And if I am not in the position to kill the enemies of America, then I am honor bound to do what I can do to make their lives moderately less pleasant.

I started this blog with the intent of being a minor nuissance. I think I've done that here. It's a low bar, I know, but this is a blog. A web log. A personal diary of my thoughts and the thoughts of a few of my friends. I never expected it to last 10 years. I never expected to do anything more than amuse myself and maybe a few of my friends. The fact that I've been able to do any good with it and have any impact at all means I've exceeded all of my hopes and expectations for it.

Thank you all for making this blog a success and for your support over the years. I literally couldn't have done any of it without you.

"I want you to know that I am willing and able to continue on the mission to save this great nation. Thank you, Lord, for this second chance."

Boy, when you've been following Jim Hoft's Gateway Pundit blog for years as I have, you feel like you know the guy. I actually did get the great privilege to go to a wonderful event at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles several years ago where he was one of five bloggers featured on a panel of bloggers which included the awesome Daniel Greenfield of Sultan Knish.

Anyway, reading the following made me cry for several reasons. It's so hard to imagine someone so obviously good going through so much pain. And, having been on the cusp of possible macular degeneration for several years, I can attest to the high degree of fear (and now Jim's reality) attached to losing any of your eyesight can bring, ESPECIALLY when your identity (public or private) is connected to your relationships online.

As an only child, I have to admit that I am envious of Jim's strong family ties--perhaps because, unlike my husband who is also an only child, my parents found me in the Children's Home Society which was created in the 1800's in Los Angeles...in other words, an "orphanage".

As a blogger, I am also aware of the much smaller contribution that I make, but that will just have to be whatever it is...I do what I can like all of us in this country who have seen the terrible changes that we are witnessing in this great country of ours. I know that we are, of course, partially responsible for this due to many of us not paying attention or not being aware that there has been a one-hundred-year attack by Progessives (ever since Woodrow Wilson) that was intended to eliminate all of the freedom that we were so blessed to receive from the sacrifices of our Founding Fathers.

But, really, you need to read Jim Hoft's post because HE IS BACK!!

Say goodbye to an angel

If you click here you will see one of the most beautiful pictures of a woman you've ever seen!

Sadly, Carol (aka Amusing Bunni) lost her battle with a very aggressive form of cancer that was diagnosed last fall.

While she was without a family, her online family really stepped up and made sure she was able to stay at home until her very last day on earth.

RIP

2nd ANNUAL ZILLA AWARDS - PART II

Because there is just so much awesomeness in the Dextrosphere that one post wouldn’t suffice, and also, because there were technical issues that left me unable to edit or update the original Second Annual Zilla Awards for Awesomeness in the Dextrosphere post. In my frustration of trying to get the blog to do what I wanted it to do without losing all the codes and formatting in that post, I had wrapped it up earlier than I intended to and some very good bloggers who I wanted to give awards to were inadvertently not included. I promised a Part II post to try to remedy that issue, so below you will find some more award winning bloggers who may claim their widget in at THIS LINK, because if I try to put the code in this post, I’ll just have the same problems all over again. I apologize for the problems with the first post, and for the delay in getting this one up.

Here are the rest of this year’s winners (apologies in advance to awesome bloggers who get left out this time, but I can’t remember everybody, so you’ll just have to try harder to work your way into my brain to increase your odds for being included in the THIRD Annual Zilla Awards for Awesomeness in the Dextrosphere which should appear in January of 2014):

Welcome to the Second Annual Zilla Awards for Awesomeness in the Dextrosphere!

2012 Zilla Award

If you click here you will see that this blog -- lgstarr -- won an award for "Best All-Around Blogging" and that has just made the day for me (especially since I've got some weird thing going on in my throat that tickles, chokes me, and won't let me talk more than 30 seconds without coughing)!

I absolutely know that what I do here is not equal to some of the other winners in this category, but it did give me the confidence to post my very first Paypal button here (which you'll see top right), and I must say that in this day and age (Age of Obama), living on a fixed income is turning into a very unpleasant journey as this country descends deeper and deeper into a financial and economic pit generated by all the angry, grasping, hating, prosperity-and-freedom killers on the Left and in the Democratic Party.

I tell you, John F. Kennedy would not recognize this party anymore!

As ZILLA OF THE RESISTANCE said:
Congratulations to all of the winners of the 2012 Zilla Awards for Awesomeness in the Dextrosphere!*
Thanks, Kiddo!

National Day of Blogger Silence — This Friday

ACE OF SPADES HQ
Excerpt:
On Friday, this site will be absolutely dead-silent, which is what Brett Kimberlin and his stalker crew seeks, and what the media and our supposed Representatives in Congress would permit.

The only post on Friday will be a bold-faced Open Letter to Congress, urging them to act and not attempt to pass the buck to others.

They are our representatives; we would like some representation.

They vowed to defend and protect the Constitution; they can honor that vow now.

I will post links of Congressmen's and Senator's email addresses and offices and phone numbers, and urge every concerned American citizen to let them know, in no uncertain terms, that a crime in progress against the First Amendment (and people's safety) is occurring, and we humbly request they take this seriously.

They are literally going to get someone killed. That is their endgame here.

Will the media and Congress pretend "we didn't know" when this happens?

ABCNews knows.

The Weekly Standard knows.

The Daily Caller knows.

And many, but not yet all, Congressmen and Senators know.

I encourage all bloggers and twitterers to essentially strike that day, or write nothing except your desire that you expect your Congressmen to take threats to your First Amendment rights seriously.
