Veteran's greeting:
Happy Brother's Day
You may have served in Combat or in non-combat. You may have retired out or you may have served for a short time. You may have been a draftee or a volunteer. You may have served in the Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or the Merchant Marines,
BUT YOU SERVED. YOU DID YOUR JOB HONORABLY and for that I am PROUD to call you Brother.
You may have served during Korea , WWII,. Vietnam , Persian Gulf , Iraq or Afghanistan , but you served, you did not run. You have a DD 214 with those words "HONORABLY DISCHARGED" two of the most noble words in the world. Again I am proud to know each and every one of you.
*Today is Band of Brothers' Day*
To the cool men that have touched my life: Here's to you!! I was never a hero, but I am thankful and proud to have served among them.
A real Brother walks with you when the rest of the world walks on you.

Veterans Day poem from Kender MacGowan
Shaky Old Hands
He awoke before dawn as he usually did
But today wasn't just any day
He showered and shaved with shaky old hands
And went to the bed where it lay
A uniform worn by the passage of years
Slightly faded, lay in all its glory
The ribbons upon it were starting to fade
But to him it told quite a story
He was a kid in late '44
Shipped off to a beach head in France
When the fighting was done he put down his gun
While a french girl taught him to dance
A few short years later he fought in the snow
And become one of the Chosin Few
He thinks on those days when the weather is cold
And winter is breaking anew
He fought them in Nam as the monsoons poured down
While the media at home slurred his name
Never doubting his mission he had no regrets
He retired without any shame
Today he would ride down the main street of town
As the folks on the sidewalk would cheer
Tomorrow they'd not recognize him at all
It happened like this every year
But he doesn't care he knows what he did
In all of those far away lands
And he smiles as he buttons his uniform up
With his heroic, shaky old hands

Operation Gratitude Fourth Annual Holiday Drive
Los Angeles organization to send 50,000 Care Packages to Support the Troops
During the Veteran's Day Weekend, November 11- 12, Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, will kick off its Fourth Annual Holiday Drive, to assemble and mail over 50,000 care packages to deployed troops for the Holidays.
Operation Gratitude's ( www.operationgratitude.com) mission is to put a smile on a service member's face, lift morale, and express the appreciation of the American people for the sacrifices of the men and women defending our freedom. Beginning November 11, Operation Gratitude's more than 1000 volunteers, along with stars from Hallmark Channel's upcoming holiday movies, will assemble and ship at least 50,000 Holiday Care Packages filled with Flash Drives, Sports Calling Cards, DVDs and CDs, Candy, Gum, Cough Drops, Cookies, Hand Warmers, Skin Care Products, Coffee and Flavorings, Greeting Cards, Batteries, Energy Drinks, T-Shirts, Socks and assorted Snacks.

All products for the packages have been donated by individuals, organizations, schools, community groups, businesses and Corporate Sponsors. Overall expenses of ~$10-15/package are covered by tax deductible financial donations from citizens across the country.
Operation Gratitude obtains names of troops from their loved ones or from comrades who previously received a package. The vast majority of names are provided by commanders and leaders in the field who have seen first-hand the positive impact of the program on the morale of their Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors.
WHAT THE TROOPS SAY:
"This is to express my deepest gratitude to you, this organization and the service they are providing to us Soldiers who are deployed. Sometimes with all the negativity that we hear it makes us wonder how the home front sees us. Then a bright spot appears and we see how people such as you support us here. Your care package was wonderful and everything will be put to good use. Thank you so much!" MSG SS
