Mexican children being sacrificed to ‘Saint of Death’

In recent years, Santa Muerte, along with their very own patron saint, Jesus Malverde has become very popular with Mexico’s drug smugglers and assassins. Many of these individuals will stop and pay homage to the ‘Skeleton Saint’ before carrying out a hit or making the illegal journey north into the United States.

In 2009, a Chicago Tribune article reported on how the worship of Santa Muerte has spread to the United States along with the spread of illegal immigration. Cities with large populations of Mexican nationals such as Chicago, Houston, Tucson and New York all have many Santa Muerte devotees and shrines.

Los Angeles alone reportedly has at least 15 separate religious groups dedicated to the Saint of Death, including the well known Temple of Santa Muerte.
