Housework cuts breast cancer risk

Drat!

Just as I've FINALLY convinced my husband to let us pay for some help around the house.
The research on more than 200,000 women from nine European countries found doing household chores was far more cancer protective than playing sport.

Dusting, mopping and vacuuming was also better than having a physical job.

Out of all of the activities, only housework significantly reduced the risk of both pre- and post-menopausal women getting the disease.

Housework cut breast cancer risk by 30% among the pre-menopausal women and 20% among the post-menopausal women.
Read it and weep--or laugh, it's hard to figure which.

Boy, does this put a whole new light on "The Politics of Housework"!!!

An Evening with Colin Powell

The retired general and former secretary of State, right, in conversation with journalist Juan Williams aired at 10 p.m. on KCET (PBS, Los Angeles) last night and was billed as "A rare and insightful look into the life and career of Colin Powell".

If you ever get a chance to see it in a repeat, please do watch--it was really good!

He is a rare person and has an incredible history. Aside from any political differences (and he does not, in any way, demean President Bush in this interview) you will be impressed by this man.

I remember seeing a two-hour interview with him in, I believe, the 1980's...he had been traveling all over the country speaking to children. That was a great interview and this is even better (for some reason I cannot explain, I felt like crying at the end!).

There was an offer to purchase the video of this interview at the end for $34.95 (a bit pricey for my taste though).

Jimmy Carter puts his mouth where his money is

Carter: an anti-semitic hypocrite:
For decades Jimmy Carter has continually taken the side of Arab countries and opposed the position of Israel. Most of us suspected an anti-Israel and even an anti-semitic bias in the former President. Now the truth comes out. While he obviously is both anti-Israel and anti-Jewish, we now find out that his foundation has, from its inception, been financed by Arabs.
Now we know that Jimmy Carter has A Religious Problem:
Since 1948, some administrations (Eisenhower, Bush Sr.) have been less ardent in their attachment to Israel, and others (Kennedy, Nixon) more so. Throughout the last 60 years, though, the U.S. has never wavered in its concern for Israel's survival and its support for the Jewish people's right to statehood. While U.S.-Israel ties are no doubt strengthened by common bonds of democracy and Western culture, religion remains an integral component in that relationship. We know that Lyndon Johnson's Baptist grandfather told him to "take care of the Jews, God's chosen people," and that Bill Clinton's pastor, on his deathbed, made the future president promise never to abandon the Jewish state. We know how faith has impacted the policies of George W. Bush, who is perhaps the most pro-Israel president in history.
Why won't Carter debate his book?:
YOU CAN ALWAYS tell when a public figure has written an indefensible book: when he refuses to debate it in the court of public opinion. And you can always tell when he's a hypocrite to boot: when he says he wrote a book in order to stimulate a debate, and then he refuses to participate in any such debate. I'm talking about former president Jimmy Carter and his new book "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid."

Warning: True Story

All methods have tricked me with their promises of easy, painless hair removal: The Epilady, the standard razor, the scissors, Nair, EpilStop, and now The Wax.

My night began as any other normal weekday night. I came home from work, fixed dinner for my son and we played for a while. I then had the thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next couple of hours: maybe I should use that wax in my medicine cabinet.

I set up my boy with a video and headed to the site of my demise, um, I mean bathroom.

It was one of those cold wax kits. No melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the clear strips in your hand, peel them apart, press it on your leg (or wherever) and ignore the frantically rising crescendo of string instruments in the background. No muss, no fuss. How hard can this be? I mean, I'm not the girly-est of girls but I'm mechanically inclined so maybe I can figure out how this works. You'd think.

So I pull one of the thin strips out. It's two strips facing each other, stuck together. I'm supposed to rub it in my hand to warm and soften the wax (I'm guessing). I go one better: I pull out the hair dryer! And heat the SOB to ten thousand degrees. Cold wax, my ass. (Oh, how that phrase will come back to haunt me.)

I lay the strip across my thigh. I hold the skin around it and pull. OK, so it wasn't the best feeling in the world, but it wasn't bad. I can do this! Hair removal no longer eludes me! I am Sheera, fighter of all wayward body hair and smooth skin extraordinaire!

With my next wax strip, I move north.

After checking on the boy and verifying that he was, in fact, becoming one with Bear and learning all about smells, I sneak into the bathroom for The Ultimate Hair Fighting Championship.

I drop my panties and place one foot on the toilet. Using the same procedure, I then apply the wax strip across the right side on my bikini line, covering the right half of my vagina and stretching up into the inside of the right ass cheek. (Yeah, it was a long strip.) I inhale deeply. I brace myself.

RRRIIIIPPP!!!!

I'm blind! Blind from the pain! Then, vision returning.

Oh crap. I've managed to pull off half an inch of the strip. Another deep breath and…RIP! Everything is swirly and tie-dyed. Do I hear crashing drums? OK, coming back to normal again.

I want to see my trophy, my wax covered pelt that caused me so much agony. I want to revel in the glory that is my triumph over body hair.

I hold the wax strip like an Olympic gold medalist. But why is there no hair on it? Why is the wax mostly gone? Where could the wax go, if not on the strip?

Slowly, I eased my head down, my foot still perched on the toilet. I see hair - the hair that should be on the strip. I touch. I feel. I am touching wax. I look to the ceiling and silently shout "nooooooo!!"

And realize I have just begun living my own personal version of "The Tar Baby." I peel my fingers off the softest, most sensitive part of my body that is now covered in cold wax and matted hair, and make the next big mistake (up until this point, you'll remember, I've had my foot on the toilet).

I know I need to move, to do something. So I put my foot down on the floor. And then I hear the slamming of the cell door.

Vagina? Sealed shut.

Ass? Sealed shut.

A little voice in my head says "I hope you don't have to shit anytime soon, your head just might pop off."

I penguin walk around the bathroom trying desperately to figure out what I should do next. Hot water! Hot water melts wax!

I'll run the hottest water I can stand and get in. The wax should melt and I can gently wipe it away, right?

Wrong. I get in the tub. The water is slightly hotter than is used to torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical equipment…and I sit.

Now the only thing worse than having your goodies glued together is having them glued together and also glued to the bottom of a tub. Sitting in scalding hot water (which, by the way, does not melt the cold wax); I am now stuck to the tub.

I call my friend (name deleted to protect her reputation) because she once dropped out of beauty school, so surely she has some secret knowledge or trick to get wax off skin.

It's never good to start a conversation with "So my ass and vagina are stuck to the tub." She doesn't have a trick. She does her best to suppress laughter. She wants to know exactly where the wax is on the ass. "Are we talking cheek or hole, here?" she asks.

She isn't even trying to hide the giggles now. I give her the run-down of the entire night. She tells me to call the number on the side of the box, but to have a good cover story for where the wax actually is. "You know that if we were working the help line at XX Wax Co. and somebody called with their entire crack sealed shut we'd just put them on hold then record the conversation for everyone we know. You're going to end up on a radio show or the internet if you tell them the truth.

"While we go through various solutions, I have resorted to scraping the wax off with a razor. Boy, nothing feels better to the girly goodies than covering them in wax, sticking them to a tub in super hot water and THEN dry shaving the sticky wax off in the middle of the conversation (which has inexplicably turned to “other” subjects!)

I find the little, beautiful saving grace that is the lotion provided with wax to remove the excess. I rub some in and start screaming "It's working! It's working!" I get hearty congratulations from she-who-will-remain-nameless and we hang up.

I successfully remove all the wax and notice, to my dismay that the Hair is still there. So I shaved the damned stuff off. Hell, I was numb by that point anyway. And then I put the box of wax back in my medicine cabinet. Never know when a moustache might start to come in.

Tonight, I attempt hair dying.

Teenagers And Cats

For all of you with teenagers or who have had teenagers, you may want to know what they have in common with cats:

1. Neither teenagers nor cats turn their heads when you call them by name.

2. No matter what you do for them, it is not enough. Indeed, all humane efforts are barely adequate to compensate for the privilege of waiting on them hand and foot.

3. You rarely see a cat walking outside of the house with an adult human being, and it can be safely said that no teenager in his or her right mind wants to be seen in public with his or her parents.

4. Even if you tell jokes as well as Jay Leno, neither your cat nor your teen will ever crack a smile.

5. No cat or teenager shares your taste in music.

6. Cats and teenagers can lie on the living-room sofa for hours on end without moving, barely breathing.

7. Cats have nine lives. Teenagers carry on as if they did.

8. Cats and teenagers yawn in exactly the same manner, communicating that ultimate human ecstasy -- a sense of complete and utter boredom.

9. Cats and teenagers do not improve anyone's furniture.

10. Cats that are free to roam outside sometimes have been known to return in the middle of the night to deposit a dead animal in your bedroom. Teenagers are not above that sort of behavior.

Thus, if you must raise teenagers, the best sources of advice are not other parents, but veterinarians!

It is also a good idea to keep a guidebook on cats at hand at all times...

And remember, above all else, put out the food and do not make any sudden moves in their direction. When they make up their minds, they will finally come to you for some affection and comfort, and it will be a triumphant moment for all concerned.

The Rule of Law be damned

The rule of law is the principle that governmental authority is legitimately exercised only in accordance with written, publicly disclosed laws adopted and enforced in accordance with established procedure. The principle is intended to be a safeguard against arbitrary governance. The Rule of Law
Now we have an Hispanic group demanding the Federal government not enforce the laws. Why? Because 99% of the law breakers (illegal aliens) are Hispanic. To arrest these folks was "like Nazi Germany" according to this group. Name calling is what bullies and dictators use. always throw in Nazi’s and folks will quiver. But not this time. Honest people want laws enforced. Obviously the folks calling for a "moratorium" are not honest people. Plus, there care about the housing, jobs, education and health care of illegal aliens as a first priority, and the needs of honest citizens having NO priority.
"Leaders" Demand Feds Stop Enforcing The Laws, they Prefer Lawbreaking

Unlike a pure democracy, in a constitutional republic, citizens are not governed by the majority of the people but by the rule of law.

Atlas Shrugged: The Movie!

This is great news for us Ayn Rand fans..."Atlas Shrugged is an amazing tale of corruption of government and the should by "statists". This is a must see movie. While I am not impressed with Jolie as an actress, her personal fervor and attitude clearly matches that of Ayn Rand.

"It was published almost 50 years ago, and has sold millions of copies. But only now is Ayn Rand’s controversial individualist novel ’Atlas Shrugged’ about to become a movie starring Angelina Jolie. Ed Hudgins, editor of the New Individualist, tells me that the screenplay adapting the 1,100-page epic novel is only a couple weeks away from completion. Production is set to begin next year with the release of the film in 2008. Mr. Hudgins says fans of Atlas should be pleased that the adaptation is being authored by Randall Wallace, the scriptwriter for ’Braveheart,’ Mel Gibson’s epic tale of Scottish freedom fighters." Honest Citizens Line Up For Jobs Illegal Aliens Held

Jobs Americans won't do, my ass!

It's bad enough that our legislators make laws and then a whole lot of people decide that it's ok just to ignore them--since when was anarchy a constitutional right?--but to put salt on the wound, no one seemed to care that our countrymen were being cheated out of jobs that could feed themeselves and their families! And if you are rooting for these people, you are helping them to commit one of the most devastating crimes in modern society, that of Identity Theft (and you will have no one to blame but yourself if and when you wake up to thousand of dollars, even millions, that you are supposed to owe to credit card companies for things you never purchased--and that's just the beginning of the nightmare).

Here is the proof that Americans will take the jobs the illegal aliens steal. The line was out the door—that says something.

The Worst Worsens

In his book "The Great Crash 1929," John Kenneth Galbraith said: "The worst continued to worsen." The same can be said of the Duke University "rape" case and District Attorney Michael Nifong.

Nifong deserves to be removed from office and disbarred. If he gets away with all this, it will be a blank check for every prosecutor in the country to abuse the powers of the office.
Duke Case: The Worst Worsens - December 19, 2006

Failure by public officials and the bar assocation to hold Nifong accountable for his improper legal and ethical conduct has enabled him to subvert groups that citizens count on to advocate for fairness and justice.

It would seem there are two explanations for the “no-comment” response of both the state and Duke Democrats:
  • The state and Duke Democratic parties don’t believe that Nifong has violated civil liberties in the lacrosse case, nor do they consider Peterson’s statements homophobic.
  • The state and Duke Democratic parties are fully aware that the Nifong/Peterson axis contradicts the party’s basic principles, but don’t care enough about those principles to stand up for them in this instance, lest doing so risk alienating the party’s African-American base.
Nifong's Political Fallout - Friday, September 22, 2006

I firmly believe Nifong, a disgrace to a degree that is criminal, should be disbarred and publicly humiliated. Further, since no local Democrats have bothered to criticize him, the electorate should be constantly reminded how Democrats behave once rewarded with power. And, of course what Democrats are willing do to stay in power.
Democrat Mike Nifong , the Most Despicable Man in America - Monday, October 16th, 2006

...there is a tight race in the Democratic Primary where the incumbent Ditrict Attorney, Mike Nifong is battling Freda Black and Keith Bishop. Both Nifong and Freda Black are white, while Keith Bishop is black. Thus, in the Democratic Primary, which is May 2nd, Nifong has every right to fear that the he and Freda Black will split the white vote while Keith Bishop got all the African-American voters.

The one thing that all Durhamites hate (particularly black Durhamites) is Duke. Nifong has won alot of African-American friends in his strident attack on the Duke elites.

Now, we have word that Nifong won't release the results of the DNA test and won't file charges until April 10th. Curiously, that is even closer to the May 2nd primary and will keep him in the papers and on television for another two weeks.

Will Harry Potter lose his head?

Officers tell of daily attacks by al Qaeda inmates against U.S. military personnel, who are ordered not to respond. The officers have also been ordered to fulfill the religious, cultural and even entertainment needs of the inmates, including providing Arabic translations of Harry Potter.
Ahmed Shablool writing for Arab World Books explains this apparently strange confluence:

The Eastern Influence in Harry Potter
According to the Concise Arabic Encyclopedia, Alexandria was the home of the Philosopher’s Stone and the Elixir of Immortality that transform base metals into precious ones, namely gold, and brings back youth. This old art originated in Egypt, others say in China, in the third or fifth century BC. It is associated with astrology and magic. It was called old chemistry, or alchemy, and reached the Arabs in the eighth century to stay with them until the 12th century. It was then transferred to Europe through the translation of the works of famous Arab chemists like Khaled bin Yazid, Jaber bin Hayan, ThouNoon AL-Masri, Al-Tughraei, Zakariya Al-Razi, and others. Symbolism characterized this science-art throughout the Middle Ages, and it was shrouded in secrecy.

The rulers of Islam were fond of chemistry, up to the extent that some sacrificed their lives in the quest of more knowledge in this field.

This is how the Philosopher's Stone's existence came to life in Roling’s novel, emanating from the imaginations of the Arab scientists of old, especially those who practiced alchemy and who spoke about their art in terms shrouded in mystery, symbols and magic. Roling did an excellent job in using these ideas, fascinating children and adults alike with her broad imagination and her impressive knowledge of the Middle Ages and antiquity, especially Egyptian, Arabic and Islamic history, or the history of the East in general, although she never mentioned it in the first part of the series. In fact she did not need to. The melting of sources and references in the structure of the novel is an indication of the professionalism of the author.

We can also say that the author benefited greatly from the stories of Moses and his encounter with the Egyptian magicians who converted their wands into snakes and serpents as stated in the Holy Quran. It is difficult to judge whether Roling read the Holy Quran, however similar stories exist in the Old and New Testaments. But we may see that the usage and training to use the magic wands are a manifestation of Eastern influence through Eastern myths and the three major religions.

Dick Durbin must have had British auther J. K. Roling in mind:
Gitmo called death camp

The Senate's No. 2 Democrat has compared the U.S. military's treatment of a suspected al Qaeda terrorist at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay with the regimes of Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Pol Pot, three of history's most heinous dictators, whose regimes killed millions.

Mr. Durbin also likened the treatment of terror suspects at the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's decision to authorize the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

It's a dove, it's a hawk, it's an ostrich!

“When the San Francisco Democrats treat foreign affairs as an afterthought... they [behave] less like a dove or a hawk than like an ostrich—convinced it would shut out the world by hiding its head in the sand... When the Soviet Union walked out of arms control negotiations, and refused even to discuss the issues, the San Francisco Democrats didn’t blame Soviet intransigence. They blamed the United States. But then, they always blame America first. When Marxist dictators shoot their way to power in Central America, the San Francisco Democrats don’t blame the guerrillas and their Soviet allies, they blame United States policies of 100 years ago. But then, they always blame America first. The American people know better.” —former UN ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick, who died last Friday at 80

Money for nothin'

We are now in real dire straights since Nancy Pelosi is going to become the speaker of the House of Representatives:
  • First she tries to get ally John Murtha to be made the House majority leader, despite questions about his ethics...

  • Next she tries to award the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee to Representative Alcee L. Hastings who was impeached by the Senate and removed as a federal district judge in 1989...

  • Now she's finally succeeded, though, by getting Rep. Silvestre Reyes to head the Intelligence Committee when the Democrats take over in January...
In an interview with CNN, CQ National Security Editor Jeff Stein said he was "amazed" by Reyes' lack of what he considers basic information about two of the major terrorists organizations.

Stein said Reyes is not the only member of the House Intelligence Committee that he has interviewed that lacked what he considered basic knowledge about terrorist organizations.
Members of the Intelligence Committee, mind you, are paid $165,200 a year to know more than basic facts about our foes in the Middle East.

“Stop giving me tests!” Reyes exclaimed, half kidding.

“I’m not going to talk to you any more!”

Democrats’ New Intelligence Chairman Needs a Crash Course on al Qaeda

Does Ms. Pelosi remind you of anyone?

Nancy Pelosi is a bit of a control freak. She obsesses over the wording of statements from her office. She has a tight circle of confidants and demands utter loyalty. She can be incredibly stubborn.

She may be as stubborn as they all complain that President Bush is, but she is obviously no friend of Israel:

Pelosi picked Reyes over fellow Californian Rep. Jane Harman, an "outspoken supporter of Israel" and currently the top Democrat on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Clinton Spied, Diana Died

Both US and British intelligence then forced Diana to change her plans to stay with Mr Forstmann in the summer of 1997, saying it was too "dangerous" to take her sons there.

Instead the princess took the fateful decision to take a summer break with Harrods owner Mohamed Fayed. This ultimately led to her going to Paris with his son Dodi, where they died in a car crash.
Diana was bugged by secret service in U.S.

Hmmm...think Bill was jealous?

Satan Service: A Practical Guide to Suicide

Satan Service has conveniently provided us with their Practical Guide to Suicide in which they list an amazing array of possibilities to choose from including Decapitation (Beheading):
The handling and restraint required to perform this technique may be distressful… Data suggest that electrical activity in the brain persists for 13-14 seconds following decapitation. …Decapitation may be aesthetically displeasing to personnel performing or observing the technique.
This was obviously a great help to the Baker-Hamilton group seeing as how they were guided to choose a most unique method--human sacrifice: more specically, that of our closest allies.

From a war for victory against Islamofascism and for democracy and freedom, the war became reduced to a conflict to be managed by appeasing the US's sworn enemies in the interests of stability, and at the expense of America's allies.

Obviously, if implemented, the Baker-Hamilton group's recommendations will be disastrous for Israel.

Worse than that, from a US perspective, although Gates admitted Tuesday that he cannot guarantee that Iran will not attack Israel with nuclear weapons, he ignored the fact that Iran - whose President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad daily calls for the destruction of the US - may also attack the US with nuclear weapons.

Gates admitted in his Senate hearing that Iran is producing many bombs - not just one.

Since it is possible to destroy Israel with just one bomb, the Americans should be asking themselves what Iran needs all those other bombs for. There are senior military sources in the US who have been warning the administration to take into consideration that the day that Iran attacks Israel with a nuclear bomb, 10 cities in the US and Europe are liable to also be attacked with nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, no one is listening to these voices today.
Jews Wake Up!

So, it is accomplished...

We will be congratulating ourselves (or, rather, the Democrats will be congratulating themselves) and as the champagne glasses clink, we will never know what hit us...a most unique method indeed, Satanically perverse!

Return of the Jihadi

In light of the fact that CAIR-Florida's Communications Director Ahmed Bedier lists on his blog profile "The Star Wars Series" as one of his "Favorite Movies," the following seems appropriate:

Long ago, in a Tampa CAIR office far enough away
that nobody can see what's goin' on in there...

From AmericansAgainstHate.blogspot.com

Americans Against Hate recently launched "CAIR Watch":

AMERICANS AGAINST HATE LAUNCHES 'CAIR WATCH'
SITE CREATED TO EXPOSE RADICAL ISLAMIC GROUP

(Coral Springs, FL) Americans Against Hate (AAH) has launched 'CAIR Watch,' a project dedicated to exposing the extremist nature and terrorist ties of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Joe Kaufman, the Chairman of Americans Against Hate, has been tracking CAIR since October of 2001, exactly one month after 9/11, when Kaufman appeared on a radio show to debate the Executive Director of CAIR-Florida, Altaf Ali. On the show, Ali derided Kaufman for being Jewish and repeatedly refused to answer the question of whether or not the people that perished in the World Trade Center were innocent.

CAIR Watch will profile the extremist activities and statements made by CAIR officials and those associated with CAIR. The project will also expose media and government organizations that laud CAIR or grant the Islamist group any type of legitimacy.

CAIR Watch is asking for volunteers across the United States to act as "CAIR Watchers" to assist in the project.

Kaufman stated, "We are currently in a war on terrorism, and we believe that any group associated with terrorist organizations abroad should not be allowed to exist within the United States. Given CAIR's ties to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, we believe that CAIR is one of those groups."

Four of CAIR's representatives have been charged by the United States government with conducting terrorist-related activities. Two of those representatives are sitting in American prisons; the other two have been deported. CAIR is also the defendant in a 9/11 lawsuit put forward by the family of FBI Agent John P. O'Neill, who was murdered during the 9/11 attacks.

According to Steven Pomerantz, former FBI Assistant Director and Chief of the FBI's Counter-Terrorism Section, "CAIR, its leaders and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups." Other government and law enforcement officials have made similar statements.

Joe Kaufman is available for interview. E-mail: info@americansagainsthate.org

The Yin and Yang of Bill & Hill

Those who know both Hillary and Bill well and are willing to speak frankly in public realize the fundamental differences between the two and grasp how his abilities are the counterpoints to her defects.

He is intensely creative, constantly turning issues over in his mind seeking new solutions. She rarely has a new idea but specializes in advocacy — the rote recitation of talking points.

He has an instinctual feel for people and an uncanny ability to read a room and know what everyone in it is thinking. She is obtuse in her understanding of people and ham-handed in her approach.

He cares deeply about being loved. She seeks popularity as a means to the goal of getting elected but otherwise marches to the beat of her inner, liberal drummer.

He distrusts ideology, and his innate perfectionism finds all belief systems flawed. She swallows the ideological line of the guru du jour hook, line, and sinker. During the health-care years, it was Ira Magaziner that pushed her buttons.

When she decided to back the Iraq war, it was the generals who paraded before her committee. She is vulnerable to a cultish adoration of the guys with all the answers.

He lets the give and take of politics wash off his back. A critic is a potential convert whom he hopes to charm over to his side. She has a rigidly dichotomized view of friends and enemies, demanding total loyalty and public silence from the former and maintaining a ruthless determination to destroy the latter.

She is a Democratic Nixon to those whom she perceives as her enemies.

He is a moderate by instinct, seeking incremental change. She devotedly and deeply believes in a European-style socialism in which government takes much more of our national income and offers a far wider array of services and benefits.

He'll raise taxes when he has to. She'll increase them just to redistribute income.

He's most like Eisenhower, Kennedy and Bush Sr. — feeling his way, acting with caution, and skeptical of all advice. She is more like LBJ, Nixon or Bush Jr. — determined to charge ahead and do what she thinks needs to be done, torpedoes be damned.

And finally, he knows who he is and, except for his private shortcomings, is not ashamed to let it show. She constantly seeks to reinvent herself and rigidly maintains an almost totally inaccurate image in public of what she is really like in private. He has little discipline. Hers is iron. His caution is innate. Hers is a learned response to what happens when people see who she really is.

He made a very good domestic-policy president. She would be a disaster at home and abroad.

A very dangerous development

European Socialists eager to work with U.S. Democrats
"We are not anti-American, we want the real America, your America," former Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, president of the European Socialist Party, said in remarks directed at Dean.

"Europe needs an America that is back on track," said Portuguese Socialist Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country is hosting the meeting.
Socialists, or centre-left governments, currently hold or share power in just over half of Europe.

Who cares, you may think, whether or not they are socialists? That's just a word that a lot of uptight rich white men got exorcised over...besides, didn't Hillary say it takes a village?

Here's a travel brochure for this village:

When the Russian Revolution came, Lenin and his colleagues had to address the paradox that according to orthodox Marxism Russia was not ready for a real communist revolution, since it had never passed through the necessary stage of capitalism itself. Although developing quickly enough, and the fourth largest economy in the world just because of its size, Russia was still largely a feudal society. Lenin died before much sense could be made of the situation, especially when his programs caused the economy to collapse and he had to retreat from an attempt at pure communism into the semi-market economy of the New Economic Policy (the NEP). Subsequently, Stalin (Iosif Dzhugashvili, 1879-1953) followed the principle that the Russian Revolution would substitute a benign replacement for capitalism, namely "socialism," which would do the same job of industrialization without capitalist exploitation. Meanwhile, the new Russian state, the Soviet Union, would fight against imperialism and work for de-colonization and national liberation. If imperialism and colonialism could be ended, then capitalist economies would revert to the dynamic described by Marx and communism would develop there in the natural way.
The Marxist-Leninist Theory of History
And here is the real truth of what these European Socialists want to share with us--their version of the Real America:

The End of Europe

Europe as we know it is slowly going out of business...A weak European economy is one reason that the world economy is shaky and so dependent on American growth. Preoccupied with divisions at home, Europe is history's has-been. It isn't a strong American ally, not simply because it disagrees with some U.S. policies but also because it doesn't want to make the commitments required of a strong ally. Unwilling to address their genuine problems, Europeans become more reflexively critical of America. This gives the impression that they're active on the world stage, even as they're quietly acquiescing in their own decline.

And more, from some who consider themselves "social democrats":

Is Social Democracy a viable model for the European future?

  • The Western European economies, which I take as the living embodiments of social democracy, face a dual crunch: low rates of economic growth and unfavorable demographics.

  • ...social democracy stands in danger unless Europe can boost its rates of economic growth.

  • Most of Western Europe experienced a long postwar boom, lasting at least through the late 1970s (the timing is later for Spain). This was sustained by rebuilding, an enormous growth in world trade, and by lower levels of government intervention than we see today. But welfare payments rose, taxes rose, labor markets became less flexible, interventions favored insiders to a greater degree, regulations were cartelized, and the entrepreneurial spirit ebbed.

  • Western European per capita income is now about 30 percent below that of the United States and I see the gap widening rather than closing.

  • It seems that for Western Europe to regain its dynamism, it has to move to a freer market economy, higher rates of childbirth, higher immigration, and greater religiosity. It has to stop being the Europe which we (or at least I) love, and become more like the United States.
And this:
Thus Europe, which had relied on extensive growth in the 1950s and 1960s, had no choice but to switch to intensive growth from the 1970s on. The problem was that institutions tailored to the needs of extensive growth were less suited to the challenges of intensive growth. Bank-based financial systems had been singularly effective at mobilizing resources for investment by existing enterprises using known technologies, but they were less conducive to growth in a period of heightened technological uncertainty. Now the role of finance was to take bets on competing technologies, something for which financial markets were better adapted. The generous employment protections and heavy welfare-state charges that had given labor the security to accept the installation of mass-production technologies now became an obstacle to growth as new firms seeking to explore the viability of unfamiliar technologies became the agents of job creation and productivity improvement. Systems of worker co-determination, in which union representatives occupied seats on big firms' supervisory boards, had been ideal for helping labor to verify that owners were investing the profits resulting from its wage restraint but now discouraged bosses from taking the tough measures needed to restructure in preparation for the adoption of radical new technologies. State holding companies that had been engines of investment and technical progress were no longer efficient mechanisms for allocating resources in this new era of heightened technological uncertainty. They were increasingly captured by special interests and used to bail out loss-making firms and prop up declining industries.

And finally:
In this, his first major book, Mark Steyn--probably the most widely read, and wittiest, columnist in the English-speaking world--takes on the great poison of the twenty-first century: the anti-Americanism that fuels both Old Europe and radical Islam. America, Steyn argues, will have to stand alone. The world will be divided between America and the rest; and for our sake America had better win.

Democrats violate the Logan Act?

Drudge reports that Hamas in talks with Democratic Party in a secret location...
Hamas officials have managed to smuggle more than $66 million in cash through the Rafah border crossing in the past eight months, a member of the Hamas-led government revealed Wednesday.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Hamas-led government claimed that Hamas representatives recently held talks with officials from the US Democratic Party at a secret location.
Now, this immediately brings to mind the Logan Act:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
Why, you might ask?

Well, here's an excellent example:

Kerry's Logan Act
Many of us have long ago given up hope that obstreperous liberals in Congress who deliberately weaken our country's position in a time of war will face appropriate repercussions.

Just in case you think the Democrats are oh-so-much-more-brilliant at foreign policy, you'd better re-adjust your reading glasses:

A longtime aide to Jimmy Carter has resigned from the Carter Center think tank, calling the former president's new book on Israel and the Arabs one-sided and filled with errors.
Kenneth Stein, the Carter Center's first executive director and founder of its Middle East program, sent a letter that bluntly criticized the book to Carter and others.

Stein wrote that the book, "Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid," was replete with factual errors, material copied from other sources and "simply invented segments," according to an excerpt of the letter published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
And here are some of my past posts that will help to flesh out this idea that maybe, just maybe, icons of the Democratic Party like Carter, Kennedy, and Kerry represent a great deal of why you should be a lot more worried when they get involved in foreign affairs:

The Liberal Mind

Need a Christmas gift for a liberal friend?

Are Liberals Out of Their Minds?
Why do modern liberals think and act as they do? The radical left’s politics and its destructive effects on our basic freedoms have provoked many to speculate on what makes these people tick.

The Liberal Mind answers the question.
This book is the first systematic analysis of the political madness that now threatens to destroy the West’s greatest achievement: the American dream of civilized liberty.

Dems renege on solemn pledge

Democrats Reject Key 9/11 Panel Suggestion
It was a solemn pledge, repeated by Democratic leaders and candidates over and over: If elected to the majority in Congress, Democrats would implement all of the recommendations of the bipartisan commission that examined the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

But with control of Congress now secured, Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly: a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation's intelligence agencies.
Democrats to Gut Missile Defense
Democratic leaders are poised to gut America’s missile defense - at the same time North Korea and Iran are testing long-range missiles that can strike the U.S. and its allies, including Israel, Japan and Britain

Now that the Democrats are in charge of both houses of Congress for the first time since the 9-11 attacks, they face an important and ultimately revealing choice: will they to stick with the bromides beloved by their base or work with the president to safeguard the country from North Korean and Iranian missiles?
EXCLUSIVE: Iranian Weapons Arm Iraqi Militia
WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2006 — U.S. officials say they have found smoking-gun evidence of Iranian support for terrorists in Iraq: brand-new weapons fresh from Iranian factories. According to a senior defense official, coalition forces have recently seized Iranian-made weapons and munitions that bear manufacturing dates in 2006.

If love is all you need, then why did the Beatles break up?

Think about it.

If they were not--how do you say it properly--in love, practising love, having love, being love or whatever the heck they meant when they wrote that song "All You Need Is Love"...

...then that just makes them a bunch of those icky type people who always tell you what to do, but they never do whatever-it-is themselves...like these people:

Or...

They WERE in love, practising love, having love, being love or whatever the heck they meant when they wrote that song "All You Need Is Love"...BUT IT DIDN'T WORK and that makes them a gaggle of puff people as far as serious philosophers go, albeit really great musician/songwriters.

Now, if you are going to devote any amount of time to activities supported and/or generated by any one of the various Hollywood Halfwits from the '60's or other brilliant peace and love types like The Whole World Is Saying No War! [except the terrorists] or Violent Protesters Disrupt Tancredo Event At Michigan State University [oxymorons], don't you think you'd want a at least a little evidence that "Love Is All You Need" before marching your ass into the neighborhood (think Dearborn) al-Qaida hangout?
It’s no coincidence that the left-social democrats and the neo-Stalinists of the International Action Center/A.N.S.W.E.R. group are hostile – each for their own reasons – to libertarianism. – Justin Raimondo

The Free State Project

The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire and the brainchild of Jason Sorens, a young and handsome Yale grad with a Ph.D. in Political Science...

Little did I know that the "secret mission" I went on to the South Pacific in the late 1960's with Perry Miles, Jack Anderson, and Leeds Davis (my first husband) would end up this way!

Here's the whole story of what happened, something I only just now learned when I looked up the island of Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides Islands (our final destination after traveling to Fiji and Tonga on behalf of Mike Oliver, author of "A New Constitution for A New Country").

A wealthy pharmaceutical company owner named Werner Stiefel was the first to try to create an ocean-based libertarian society, not just write about it. In 1968, under the name Operation Atlantis, Stiefel began recruiting eager young libertarians to move into an old motel in Saugerties, New York. From that humble base they were, according to the plan, eventually to obtain sovereignty over some island--the Prickly Pear Cays in the British West Indies were an initial target--and turn it into a fresh, uncorrupted country. Under that new nation's flag, Stiefel and his freebooters could sail ships that would build artificial platforms in the ocean, which would become the real new nation.

The Stiefelers coined their own silver money, the deca, and earned a brief mention in Esquire in September 1970. "Operation Atlantis is a real mind-blower," Esquire said. "They're not just interested in a floating community, but an honest-to-God independent country....How are they going to do it? They're going to build an island, baby, in the middle of the ocean." In 1971 the group changed the price of its newsletter from 24 U.S. cents to 32 "deca-cents."

In the early '70s Stiefel and his crew built from scratch a rebar-and-mortar boat inside a geodesic dome. They managed, with many difficulties along the way, to sail the homemade vessel from Saugerties down to the Silver Shoals area, near the Bahamas. There, according to Erwin Strauss' book How to Start Your Own Country, they eventually ran afoul of Haitian dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier, who had designs of his own for the area where Stiefel tried to build a nation. (Sunken Spanish galleons with unclaimed treasure were thought to be in the area.) Stiefel and his crew were driven away, and no new Atlantis rose above the waves.

But the dream of an aquatic Galt's Gulch was too sweet to die. Around the same time that Stiefel ran afoul of Baby Doc, Mike Oliver, a concentration camp survivor, coin dealer, and land developer from Nevada, was inflaming libertarian minds with his 1968 book called A New Constitution for a New Country. In it he presented a model constitution for a nation whose extremely limited government could be financed voluntarily. Oliver did more than just write constitutions for sand castles in the sky and imagine ocean-bound libertarian strongholds; he actually gathered teams and money to build them. (Who would actually inhabit them always seemed a bit of an afterthought.)

In 1972, Oliver supervised the sea kingdom of Minerva, built on a South Pacific reef that was dry only at low tide. Minerva was quickly conquered, in one assault with one gunboat, by the king of Tonga. Oliver and his circle--which eventually included John Hospers, a philosopher at the University of Southern California and the Libertarian Party's first presidential candidate--a couple of years later tried to make common cause with a separatist movement on the Bahamian island of Abaco, but that effort fizzled out.

Oliver's most serious reach for libertopia came on the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, part of the New Hebrides. In 1980 representatives of Oliver's Phoenix Foundation--which for a while had former Reason editor and Reason Foundation founder Robert Poole on its board of directors --supplied advice and some technical skill to Jimmy Moly Stevens, leader of a Vanuatu separatist movement. The French and British, who had a peculiar dual protectorate over the islands, were pulling out. While some questioned Stevens' libertarian bona fides, we never got a chance to find out how sincere he was.

This nascent nation also was strangled in its crib. At least this time it took more than one Tongan gunboat. Troops from both Papua New Guinea and Australia, in service of the socialist government that inherited the New Hebrides after the French and British left, suppressed Stevens' rebellion. He spent a decade in jail, and the Phoenix Foundation caught the eye of the feds, who briefly considered prosecution of the parties involved for violations of the Arms Export Control Act and the Logan Act, which prohibits private citizens from interfering in U.S. relations with foreign powers.

The Sharia Chamber

Sharia law is spreading as authority wanes

Sharia, derived from several sources including the Koran, is applied to varying degrees in predominantly Muslim countries but it has no binding status in Britain.

However, the BBC Radio 4 programme Law in Action produced evidence yesterday that it was being used by some Muslims as an alternative to English criminal law.

Think it can't happen in the United States?

When I flew in to the island of Espiritu Santo in The New Hebrides islands in the 1960's, I had to choose whether to be ruled under the laws of France or of Great Britain (before 1980 it was a British-French Condominium government). Since the French hated Americans, I chose to be ruled by British law (but I spent all my free time at the country-French restaurant).
It's already starting in Great Britain.

Be careful what you vote for (watch out for the Democrats' shift towards greater multilateralism).

Craving a maple bar?

My husband wants me to make a cake!

I used to do it quite frequently when we were first married...but haven't in quite awhile now :)

Anyway, he just has to have that scrumptious maple flavor you get at the doughnut stores...and I found the most perfect recipe in an unusual place:

Parenting: Babies & Toddlers

But what's a husband besides a big baby anyway?

MAPLE FROSTING

This frosting makes a great topping to maple cupcakes or any cake. Use it to add a fall touch to your desserts.

INGREDIENTS:
• 3 tablespoons maple syrup
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
• 2 tablespoons butter, softened

PREPARATION:
Blend all ingredients except powdered sugar until well blended.
Blend in powdered sugar until mixture reaches the consistency of frosting.
If mix is too dry or thick, add a small amount of softened butter until consistency is correct.

If mix is too wet or runny, add more powdered sugar.

Americans for Dr. Rice
Dedicated to drafting Dr. Rice for President in 2008.

"Power matters. But there can be no absence of moral content in American foreign policy, and furthermore, the American people wouldn't accept such an absence. Europeans giggle at this and say we're naive and so on, but we're not Europeans, we're Americans - and we have different principles."

Dr. Condoleezza Rice, February 2003
If you are wondering why anyone would be so inspired by Dr. Rice, please read her amazing story below:

Condi Rice Takes Up Golf

By Ronald Kessler (11/27/06)

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice dominates the world stage, and she is consistently rated the most admired woman in America; yet little is known about her personal life.

Recently, Rice was at Camp David for a weekend when President Bush invited her and other friends to play golf. She wasn’t very good at it but continued to practice after everyone had left. Within a few weeks, Rice had signed up to take golf lessons from a pro. They hit the links at Andrews Air Force Base every Sunday when she’s in town.

That is typical of Rice, a driven perfectionist whose parents taught her in segregated Birmingham, Ala., that blacks had to be “twice as good” to pull even with whites.

Brushes With Racism

Most people don’t know that when she was 8, Rice was attending the service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where her father was the minister, when she heard a deafening blast. Two miles away, at 10:22 a.m. on Sept. 15, 1963, the 16th Street Baptist church had been bombed. Not until the next day did she learn that Denise McNair, one of her friends and classmates, was one of the four girls who died.

Rice attended the funeral of her friend who loved her dolls and left mud pies in the mailboxes of her childhood crushes. Rice remembered how small the coffin was. She also remembered that she somehow knew the police would not investigate the crime. If they did, no one would be convicted. It was not until 40 years later that the FBI and local authorities finally developed enough evidence to bring about convictions of three Ku Klux Klan members responsible for the bombing.

Like other African-Americans in Birmingham back then, Rice had to sit at the back of buses. When more whites got on, the driver would move a “Colored” sign farther back in the bus, making more room for whites and less for blacks. Rice could not eat at the same restaurants as whites unless the restaurant had a separate room with a separate entrance for blacks. She was not allowed to use the same drinking fountains or public restrooms as whites. But Condi Rice, a descendant of slaves and white slave owners, had something else going for her: Her middle-class black neighborhood of Titusville had developed a culture separate from the rest of the city, one that shut out the racism all around and taught children they had to excel.

“My parents,” Rice says, “were very strategic. I was going to be so well prepared, and I was going to do all of these things that were revered in white society so well, so that I would be armored somehow from racism. I would be able to confront white society on its own terms.” Rice lived in a place where restaurants wouldn’t serve her a hamburger, she says, “But my parents were telling me I could be president.”

An Avid Music Fan

Rice started taking piano lessons at age 3. Her mother, also a pianist, based Condi’s first name on the Italian phrase con dolcezza, a variation of the musical direction con dolce, meaning “with sweetness.” As a teenager, Rice was a competitive ice skater and French speaker. She is also an excellent tennis player.

Having interviewed her twice, I’ve found Rice to be even prettier, more charming, and more composed than she appears on TV. Rice served on the board of Chevron and made more than $250,000 by investing in Chevron stock. She buys eight pairs of Ferragamo shoes at a time. Every Saturday, she has a manicure at the salon in her Watergate apartment.

Rice maintains constant eye contact, gesturing with her hands as she makes her points.

I asked Rice, who is single, if she dates.

“The one thing I don’t do is talk about my personal life, but let me tell you this: I’m not a workaholic; I have friends,” she says. “I do other things besides work, and I wish I had time to do more other things.”

In fact, Rice has a weakness for football players. When her father coached high school football, she became an aficionado. Rice was briefly engaged to a Denver Broncos player. At Stanford, she dated Gene A. Washington, a former four-time All-Pro receiver for the San Francisco 49ers who was then assistant athletics director at Stanford.

He became a TV sportscaster and now heads football operations for the National Football League in Washington. Rice has shown up at Washington parties and White House state dinners with him. A fellow Alabaman, Washington says they are just friends.

A Spiritual Side

Rice is a spiritual person. She told me she prays as many as 10 times a day.

“I’m a minister’s daughter,” she says. “It’s the most natural thing in the world. Sometimes I pray to myself and sometimes, when I’m alone, I pray out loud.”

About once or twice a month, at 5:30 p.m. on Sundays, Rice plays the piano with a chamber group at her apartment.

“I’m a great Brahms fan,” she told me.

Rice is good enough to have accompanied Yo-Yo Ma at Constitution Hall when President Bush honored the renowned cellist in April 2002. A Russian speaker, Rice occasionally reads a Russian language newspaper.

With her friend Mary Kate Bush, a former alternate executive director of the International Monetary Fund, Rice attends the symphony or the opera at the Kennedy Center.

“We love to shop,” said Bush, who serves on the boards of corporations and mutual funds. “We play tennis together. Every now and then we get to go to a movie. We watch TV — sports in particular — and spend relaxing, quiet evenings. We make dinner or order in and veg out.”

Murder?

Do you like to read a good murder mystery?

Not even Law and Order would attempt to capture this mess!

This is an unbelievable twist of fate...

At the1994 annual awards dinner given for Forensic Science, AAFS President Dr Don Harper Mills astounded his audience with the legal complications of a bizarre death.

Here is the story:

On March 23, 1994...the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus, and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending to commit suicide.

He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency. As he fell past the ninth floor, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a window, which killed him instantly.

Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net had been installed just below the eighth floor level to protect some building workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide the way he had planned.

"Ordinarily," Dr Mills continued, "Someone who sets out to commit suicide and ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended, is still defined as committing suicide." That Mr. Opus was shot on the way to certain death, but probably would not have been successful because of the safety net, caused the medical examiner to feel that he had a homicide on his hands.

The room on the ninth floor, where the shotgun blast emanated, was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were arguing vigorously, and he was threatening her with a shotgun! The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed his wife, and the pellets went through the window, striking Mr Opus. When one intends to kill subject "A" but kills subject "B" in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject "B."

When confronted with the murder charge, the old man and his wife were both adamant, and both said that they thought the shotgun was not loaded. The old man said it was a long-standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her. Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared to be an accident; that is, assuming the gun had been accidentally loaded.

The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple's son loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the fatal accident.

It transpired that the old lady had cut off her son's financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother Since the loader of the gun was aware of this, he was guilty of the murder even though he didn't actually pull the trigger. The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus.

Now comes the exquisite twist: Further investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus. He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by a shotgun blast passing through the ninth story window The son, Ronald Opus, had actually murdered himself. So the medical examiner closed the case as a suicide.

A true story from Associated Press (Reported by Kurt Westervelt)

For those who want big government...

Sometimes it is said that man can not be trusted with government of himself.

Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others?

Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him?

Let history answer this question.

A Short History of the FBI

The FBI originated from a force of Special Agents created in 1908 by Attorney General Charles Bonaparte during the Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt. The two men first met when they both spoke at a meeting of the Baltimore Civil Service Reform Association. Roosevelt, then Civil Service Commissioner, boasted of his reforms in federal law enforcement. It was 1892, a time when law enforcement was often political rather than professional. Roosevelt spoke with pride of his insistence that Border Patrol applicants pass marksmanship tests, with the most accurate getting the jobs. Following Roosevelt on the program, Bonaparte countered, tongue in cheek, that target shooting was not the way to get the best men. "Roosevelt should have had the men shoot at each other, and given the jobs to the survivors."

Roosevelt and Bonaparte both were "Progressives." They shared the conviction that efficiency and expertise, not political connections, should determine who could best serve in government. Theodore Roosevelt became President of the United States in 1901; four years later, he appointed Bonaparte to be Attorney General. In 1908, Bonaparte applied that Progressive philosophy to the Department of Justice by creating a corps of Special Agents. It had neither a name nor an officially designated leader other than the Attorney General. Yet, these former detectives and Secret Service men were the forerunners of the FBI.

Illegal Aliens Committing ID Theft Are Given Legal Status In U.S.

Here is a new one.

An illegal alien admits to using phony ID, identity theft, fraud on his job application, plus vioilating Federal immigration laws. The Fed, instead of punishing him for these and the other crimes he committed, allow his legal residency in the United States. With his sterling record he soon could become a citizen. No wonder we are becoming a lawless nation.

If any one of us had violated the same laws, we would rightfully go to jail. Yet an illegal alien is rewarded for crimes.

New Report Refutes Global Warming

A recent report from Britain's Sir Nicholas Stern warned of the devastating economic effects global warming could have on the world in coming years.

But a British researcher has added his voice to those saying the "hysteria" over manmade global warming distorts the truth.

Stern — former chief economist at the World Bank — cautioned that if greenhouse gas emissions weren't significantly reduced, by 2050 the global economy would shrink by up to 20 percent, millions of people would be permanently displaced and droughts would plague the earth.

Now journalist Christopher Monckton, who was a policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher, has published a detailed report attacking the manmade global warming theory from various angles — including the so-called "medieval warm period."

The United Nations, which has issued a widely quoted report on global warming, "abolished the medieval warm period — the global warming at the end of the First Millennium A.D.," according to Monckton.

A U.N. report in 1996 "showed a 1,000-year graph demonstrating that temperature in the Middle Ages was warmer than today," Monckton writes in Britain's Sunday Telegraph.

"But the 2001 report contained a new graph showing no medieval warm period. It wrongly concluded that the 20th century was the warmest for 1,000 years . . .

"Scores of scientific papers show that the medieval warm period was real, global and up to [5 degrees Fahrenheit] warmer than now.

"Then, there were no glaciers in the tropical Andes; today they're there. There were Viking farms in Greenland; now they're under permafrost. There was little ice at the North Pole — a Chinese naval squadron sailed right around the Arctic in 1421 and found none."

Monckton also writes that Antarctica has cooled and gained ice-mass in the past 30 years, and the oceans have cooled sharply in the past two years.

He calculates that global temperatures will rise only .18 to 2.5 degrees in the coming century, "well within the medieval temperature range."

And he suggests that rather than point to greenhouse gases as the culprit behind any measurable global warming, we might blame the sun. He cites a scientist who maintains that in the past half-century the sun has been warmer, for longer, than at any time in at least the past 11,400 years.

Monckton's conclusion: "Politicians, scientists and bureaucrats contrived a threat of Biblical floods, droughts, plagues, and extinctions worthier of St. John the Divine than of science."

He also remarks: "Al Gore please note."

TAX POEMU.S. TAXES

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me
to my doom..."

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The Inheritance tax.

COMMENTS

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? And I still have to "press 1" for English!

THE YEAR 1905

What a difference a century makes!

Here are some of the U.S.statistics for the Year 1905:
  • The average life expectancy in the U.S.was 47 years.
  • Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S.had a bathtub.
  • Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
  • A three-minute call from Denverto New York Citycost eleven dollars.
  • There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads.
  • The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
  • Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennesseewere each more heavily populated than California.
  • With a mere 1.4 million people, Californiawas only the 21st most populous state in the Union.
  • The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
  • The average wage in the U.S.was 22 cents per hour.
  • The average U.S.worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
  • A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,
a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
  • More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S.took place at home.
  • Ninety percent of all U.S.doctors had no college education. Instead, they attended so-called "medical" schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."
  • Sugar cost four cents a pound.
  • Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
  • Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
  • Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
  • Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.
  • The five leading causes of death in the U.S.were:
    1. Pneumonia and influenza
    2. Tuberculosis
    3. Diarrhea
    4. Heart disease
    5. Stroke
  • The American flag had 45 stars.
  • Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.
  • The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!
  • Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.
  • There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
  • Two out of every 10 U.S.adults couldn't read or write.
  • Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
  • Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacist said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." (Shocking!)
  • Eighteen percent of households in the U.S.had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
  • There were about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.
  • And this was forwarded to me from someone else who didn't type it himself, and sent it to me in a matter of seconds!
Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years...it staggers the mind!

Throw the Jew Joke Down the Well
Borat gets anti-Semitism wrong
by Charles Krauthammer

Baron Cohen could easily have found what he seeks closer to home. He is, after all, from Europe where synagogues are torched and cemeteries desecrated in a revival of anti-Semitism — not “indifference” to but active — unseen since the Holocaust. Where a Jew is singled out for torture and death by French-African thugs. Where a leading Norwegian intellectual — et tu, Norway? — mocks “God’s Chosen People” (“We laugh at this people’s capriciousness and weep at its misdeeds”) and calls for the destruction of Israel, the “state founded ... on the ruins of an archaic national and warlike religion.”

Yet amid this gathering darkness, an alarming number of liberal Jews are seized with the notion that the real threat lurks deep in the hearts of American Protestants, most specifically Southern evangelicals...

U 2 can use YouTube

If you're not familiar with YouTube.com they are a video
sharing site that's currently the 14th most visited site on
the internet, according to ComScore Media Metrix. Right now
YouTube gets about 72 million visitors per month and 14,000
new video uploads every day.

What Google gets out of the deal is traffic. Millions of
eyeballs get to look at their targeted ads.

YouTube gets stronger filtering to keep out unwanted
material, and Google's power of search, to find videos
on the YouTube site. But even more important will be
the YouTube videos starting to show up on Google.

As test we made a silly video on how to groom a cat.
My friend took three different brushes and showed how
to use them. A month later, that silly video gets viewed
hundreds of times per week. So what could you make a
video of? How about...

Changing a car tire.
Barbecuing eggplant.
Setting up a tent.
Heating a baby bottle.
Writing on a cake.
Putting on makeup.
Opening a bottle of wine.

Yes, we all had to learn how to do all, or many of
these things at one point in time in our life.

Another friend of mine does a certain kind of yoga...
well that's boring enough. What's good about watching
someone standing still? It's not the pose... it's getting
into the twisted pose that makes a great movie. After
the movie we can send visitors to a website to buy yoga
mats, clothing, DVDs and accessories.

Anything that has a process can have a video made of it.
Trust me, YouTube will evolve into not just entertainment,
but an on-demand video encyclopedia of how to do all things.
But at the moment, the more goofy and funny your video is,
the more viral and popular it will become.

Don't let your lack of gear prevent you from getting started.
In the case of the cat video, it was totally amateur. We didn't
use proper lighting, or even have a video camera. It was a
digital still camera that had low resolution video capability.

We recorded the 30 second clip, and transferred it to the
computer. We then used Apple's QuickTime Pro for Windows,
to convert the video into a YouTube friendly format. (QT
Pro is a 30 dollar upgrade from basic QuickTime and it's
available directly from Apple.com.)

We uploaded the video to YouTube.com and almost immediately,
people were watching it and voting on it. Within four weeks
we had received thousands of views. So now that we had the
eyeballs, we needed to test the marketing.

Here's the secret. Using software like QuickTime Pro you can
add a freeze frame to the end of the video. Like the credits
at the end of a movie. This is when and where to advertise
your site.

All you need to do is make a 320 by 240 pixel graphic (or
whatever size your movie is) in Photoshop Elements or your
favorite graphics software. On the graphic you could say
something like, "For more Videos and cat grooming tips just
like this one visit EverythingKitty.com.

Once you have your graphic done, open QuickTime Pro and
choose "Open Image Sequence." Set your "Frame Rate" to
five seconds. This will display your graphic for five seconds.

Next, take the time slider and move it to the very beginning
of the five second clip. Drag in your 30 second movie from
your desktop into the QuickTime window.

This time, when you play your movie, your marketing
message will be displayed for five seconds at the end of
the movie. All that's left to do, is save it as MPEG4 and
upload it to YouTube. There's all sorts of other tricks you
can do, but this one will get you started.

So how well did we do with the kitty video and the five
second marketing message. Just over 437 dollars in affiliate
revenue, from 1,209 visitors in less than a week. That's
just over 36 cents per visitor. (Known in marketing speak
as dollar value per visitor.)

So what are you going to do this weekend? The same old
marketing stuff you've always done, or get your camera
out and start goofing around for fun and profit? You'll be
surprised at how many new visitors you can get in a very
short time.

That's it for this issue my friend. Thank you for reading.
We'll chat again soon. Until then, here's wishing you all
the best for online success.

Still In Saigon

Excepts from Andrew Cline's excellent American Spectator article "Still In Saigon":

Before the election, we heard incessantly how reckless President Bush was for stubbornly refusing to listen to his own generals about the situation in Iraq...the criticism helped bring the Democrats to power. And the first thing they did when they took charge was ignore the military command.

****************************************************************

It's not only the top commander who wants to stay in Iraq and finish the job. It's the troops...yet Democrats refuse to listen. Instead of taking military policy advice from service members whose relevant experience is in Iraq, they continue to turn to former service members whose relevant experience was in Vietnam.

****************************************************************

As Democrats are busy ignoring the entire military, from Central Command down to the privates, while drawing up their own plans for retreat, Rep. Charles Rangel is pushing to institute the draft...the United States had a draft from 1948 to 1973. We still went to Korea and (ahem) Vietnam.

Rangel also has no idea who is actually in our military. He claims it's the poor and unprivileged. (In other words, if you don't study in school so you'll have good career options, you'll get stuck in Iraq.)

But the military today is not the military of the Civil War or even Vietnam. It is more educated and affluent than ever before...the military is also not just a bunch of poor boys with no other options.

****************************************************************

Generals often make the mistake of fighting the last war. On Iraq, Democrats are doing exactly that. They just cannot get past Vietnam.

ROOT CAUSES OF ISLAMIC TERROR AGAINST THE U.S.

Prime Minister Tony Blair, Jim Baker and Brent Scowcroft have developed an intriguing theory: The core of the 13-century-old Islamic terrorism and Middle East violence is the sixty-year old Palestinian issue.

They have introduced a cost-effective tactic in combating terrorism: Rather than flex a muscle against Iran and other rogue regimes, instead of challenging the terrorist acts of the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, they expect that one should suspend disbelief, shrink the Jewish State back to the 1949 Lines and establish a Palestinian State on its border. Such a contrived approach would, supposedly, mollify and appease the unprecedented wave of anti-US Islamic terrorism.

Really??

1. 9/11 was planned while Clinton's USA and Barak's Israel were appeasing the Palestinians and the Arabs, proposing a total Israeli withdrawal, including the re-partitioning of Jerusalem and the giveaway of the Golan Heights.

2. The October 12, 2000 Islamic terrorist attack on the USS Cole (17 sailors murdered) occurred when Israel was willing to give away the store, while the US pressured Israel to absorb and compensate Palestinian refugees.

3. The August 27, 1998 Islamic terrorist assault of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania took place (257 murdered and over 4,000 injured) while President Clinton was brutally pressuring Prime Minister Netanyahu for sweeping concessions to the Palestinians and to Syria.

4. The 1995/6 Riyadh and Khobar Towers, Dhahran Islamic terror attacks (19 murdered) were carried out while Israel implemented unprecedented concessions, in spite of Palestinian hate-education, systematic violation of all commitments made by the PA and unprecedented Palestinian terrorism.

5. The February 1993 Twin Towers bombing (6 murdered and over 1,000 injured) transpired while Israel conducted the pre-Oslo talks with the PLO, snatching the PLO from the jaws of oblivion in terrorist camps in Yemen, Iraq, Sudan and Tunisia and making unprecedented concessions.

6. The December 21, 1988 PanAm-103 (270 murdered) terrorism took place a few months following the groundbreaking initiation of direct talks between the US and the PLO, while the US attempted to initiate a direct Israel-PLO dialogue.

7. The June 1985 TWA 847 hijacking to Beirut (1 US Navy Seabee diver murdered) took place when the US was backing Iraq in Baghdad's war against Iran, irrespective of the Palestinian issue.

8. The April/October 1983 bombings of the US Embassy and Marines and French military headquarters – by Syria and PLO-supported Islamic terrorists (300 Amerricans and 58 French murdered) – occurred while the US military conffronted Israeli tanks in Lebanon and the US Administration blasted Israel horrifically for its war against the PLO.

Blair's, Baker's and Scowcroft's contention that the Palestinian issue is the core of anti-Western Islamic terrorism and Mideast violence reflects a complete lack of understanding of the Arab mentality. It is totally inaccurate and fails to explain the real reason for anti-US Islamic terrorism.

It diverts attention and resources away from The Core Cause: a 13 century old religion that preaches hate against those who don't follow its precepts, and whose Holy Book preaches death and advocates terrorism against non-believers. This policy of violence has characterized Muslim interaction with the West for 1300 years, including instances of violence against the United States as far back as the late 18th Century.

Any one who is familiar with world history will be familiar with the history of Islamic violence against non-believers that goes back for centuries, and whose root cause has nothing to do with a 60 year old problem of Palestinian refugees.

If that is the approach of the new advisors to President Bush on the Islamic terror issues in the Middle East, we are in for a very rude awakening. Causing Israel to make concessions against their best interest to appease Palestinian terrorists will not bring peace to the Middle East and will not cause Islamic terrorists to lay down their weapons and grow dates and raise cattle.
